Listening to the radio with my son and Red Hot Chili Peppers was playing. My son called them an old time band. Their first album was 1984 and I was in high school. So for him it's a 40 year old band. That was like me listening to the Andrews Sisters singing about the Boovie Woogie Bugle Boy in 1984

I love the RHCP. Same with me they debuted when I was in high school and still love listening to them today and enjoy whenever a new album arrives. they released two in one year last time. I guess you call their music Funk Rock.

It is kinda scary when you put it that way. And kids (I use the term lightly) in the teens and early 20s are often living in a completely different world than those 30+ much less those 50+ but that's probably been true for every generation. The difference is the Andrews Sisters had kinda disappeared by 84, their stuff still wasn't all over pop culture (though it still popped up from time to time) whereas things like the RHCP still do. There's a great theory about how pop culture is "stuck" in a way that it never has been before in modern history (thanks to nostalgia, internet trends, creating IPs that last forever, etc.) and I think there's some truth to that even if a lot of stuff we might consider "newer" is in fact, quite old now and is viewed as such by younger people.

I like The Andrew's Sisters. Not that I bought their records, but I liked their numbers in the Abbott and Costello movies. Buck Privates, Hold That Ghost, and In the Navy. They used to play on the weekends, in the days before VCRs. " The Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B."

Josh Klinghoffer, Arik Marshall, John Frusciante, Dave Navarro, Hillel Slovak. The Peppers always had some unique guitar players.


Flea and Anthony always modeled themselves after Parliament -Funkedelic and they have done a really excellent job while remaining true to their LA background.

Not a lot of people know, but Flea & Anthony went to MIT (musicians Institute) there in Hollyweird and were looking for replacements and that is where they found Chad and John. John was the ONLY player obsessed with Hendrix, while everyone else was mastering SHREDDING!

So John got the gig.


Chad was into John Bonham and could actually GROOVE while all the other drummers where playing kits with 4-6 Floor Toms and playing like Alex Van Halen, Carmine Appice or Cozy Powell on SPEED!

Anthony and Flea have TRIED to keep those facts a secret for decades.


I did feel sorry for Arik, he was in a no win situation. Actually all the guitar players that have been in the band. They ALWAYS try to COERCE Frusciante back into the band. But John like Hillel had a bad smack habit.


I hope he is finally off that ****.

The Chili Peppers are great! Got to see them a couple times back in the day. In 89 and the 92 Lolapalooza!

I feel that Blood Sugar Sex Magik was their last great album, though I do like some cuts that followed, like Warped, Dark Necessities and Love Rollercoaster. I made the mistake of reading Scar Tissue. If you're a fan of Kiedis, DON'T.

There "feud" with Faith No More was a joke and Keidis has put that band in danger so many times. And to look down on Frusciante!?!?

There's early footage out there of Frusciante where he was a bit of a shredder at one point before leaning into the Hendrix stuff, its pretty interesting.

I like the Chili Peppers but have to say Anthony is by far the least talented member of the band. Not unlike what David Lee Roth was to Van Halen.

IMO Anthony was definitely the voice and stage presence for the RHCP and the same goes for Diamond Dave.

Fascinating.

I was really into RHCP for a few years.

Going back to the old thing, it's like some when singers or bands were referenced in movies, I had no image of them, or knew what they were known for, same with some older actor impersonations.

It even took me a few seconds longer that it should to get the line from Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade - "I've should have mailed it to the Marx Brothers".

Since then I've watched Marx Brothers movies and things from their time period.

Overall, I would compare it to a line in the original Running Man, - "Who's Spock"

Even when music and fictional characters continue on, and though the internet provides information, there will always be something that someone has ever heard of, or encountered.

And, certain things to some individuals will always feel like they were from a distant past.

Lol i know. I stand by it. I'd absolutely agree that they had the presence, charisma, look but, the actual singing along with their schticks, I can take it or leave it I guess.
