    Restoring a century old doll

This doll belongs to my mother. It also belonged to my grandmother when she was a little girl, and she gave it to my Mom. My Mom just turned 86, and my grandmother would be 121 if she was still alive, so we estimate the doll has to be between 110 to 115 years old. It's made of wood composite coated in shellac. The head is porcelain with real human hair. Getting into customizing, I learned how to fix Megos, so I checked out videos on fixing other figures and dolls. It was in pieces because the internal strings of course disintegrated, but was otherwise in good condition. Was able to restring with thick elastic and a tool I made from paperclips. The torso is hollow and the legs attach to a hook at the bottom of the head. The arms attach across to each other. The limbs are individual pieces for the articulation, and they string together like beads. The tension of the elastic holds everything together. Got her a new dress, and my mom's stylist redid the hair. Would be interesting to do a DNA test on the hair, to see if the donor has any descendants. The picture sitting down is after the hairstyle. If I hadn't started customizing, the doll would still be in pieces in my Mom's closet. She calls it Katie after her mom.

Lovely restoration work and pretty cool your Mego customizing helped you with it.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

This is pretty cool, a doll probably sold in a toy or doll shop around 1910? any idea on the original doll name or company manufacturer?

I’ll be honest though, the human hair thing sort of creeps me out (sorry) but regardless this is something your grandmother had as a child and passed down to your mother and you fixed it up to look almost new, a delicate fix I’m sure, great job.

No idea on company or name. Thanks for the praise, but all I did was restring. My mother kept the pieces in good condition, and the stylist did the hair. The new dress don't hurt either.
