What a shame.........truly the end of an era. The last major actor from the "Little Rascals" aka "Our Gang" has died. Sidney Kibrick played "Woim" in 27 shorts from 1935-1939. He starred with Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, Porky, Darla, and Waldo. However, after "Our Gang" and doing a handful of films, he was through. He quit acting while in his teens. He was actually discovered while eating with his family at a Chinese restaurant. However, unlike many, many child actors of that time, he did not fall into drugs, have a bad home life, or have misfortune follow him. He always talked about what a great life he had -- and great memories of "Our Gang." While he could not stand working with Carl Switzer (Alfalfa) he stated in interviews everyone else was great to deal with. He was always a gracious through-the-mail signer. Whenever I would write to him and ask questions, he would always answer them and write back. I was always a huge fan of "our Gang." Hal Roach was a genius for putting all those kids together. With Sidney gone, that only leaves two background players left (Bill Mindy and Peggy Lynch). Gone but never forgotten. Sidney Kibrick was 97.

I was toying of mentioning the "Keystone Kops" to some of my "younger" coworkers and didn't. As I knew A) it would go over there heads. B). I would spend an awful amount of time EXPLAINING to them the concept, significance and relevance of the Kops along with Laurel and Hardy Three Stooges, The Little Rascals, Abbott and Costello, etc, etc.
Don't get me wrong I am sure there are "kids" into all of the above and when you have someone like Steve Darnell doing his radio show every Saturday on WDCB (dotcom). (For those curious) "Those Were The Days". (Like his magazine/fanzine). When I'm out and about on Saturdays I always have the car radio Steve always has a great show; Jack Benny, Police dramas, comedy routines, always great stuff and it ALL on the Radio!!!
I am glad Sidney didn't suffer in his lifetime, glad he was content. God bless him.
RIP. Mr. Kibrick.
