    RIP Polly Holliday "Alice"

One of the most iconic characters ever: "Flo." With her signature catchphrase "kiss my grits" Polly Holliday was the true star of "Alice." While I was never a big fan of the show, I sure liked her character a lot. Her interactions with Mel (Vic Tayback) were just hilarious. Her catchphrase was once voted one of the most well-known phrases in TV history. It is a shame she left the series after 5 years (1976-1980). I have read many articles throughout the years that she and Linda Lavin "Alice" on the show, could not stand one another. Thus, Polly left and did a short-lived spin-off. Ironic why they call it acting. Polly often said she was the polar opposite of the character she portayed. While she did make a number of films, she will always be remembered for "Alice." Years ago, I did get her autograph through the mail. While it was a very unplesant experience, I am glad I got anything back. Polly was 88.

Flo was definitely one of the main reason folks watched the show, and why it became so popular, especially that catchphrase. I heard Lavin was jealous of the attention Holiday received, which is why she spun off into her own show.

She's also pretty memorable in Gremlins as the old lady the titualr creatures send flying out of her house on her automated staircase chair!

      RIP.

ALICE was a guilty pleasure. I also heard everyone did NOT get along with Diane Ladd aka BELLE. And honestly, I didn't like the character of Belle, either. But FLO was so popular. Vera made me uncomfortable...

        Mel was a deek!!

But it was addictive to watch.

        RIP Ms. Holliday.

If you don't mind my asking, what was unpleasant about the autograph experience?
