I was never a big Black Sabbath guy. But I suspect that many of the regular participants on these forums are all of a similar age, and many of us (from all across North America) may well remember being on an elementary school playground and listening to some kid with an older brother describe how Ozzy bit the head off of a live bat!

That said, I watched a documentary about him once which explained that he was born into nearly dirt-poor poverty in Birmingham, and was subsequently sexually abused as a boy. I may not love every aspect of his famous/infamous life, but I 100% respect and admire anyone who can propel themself from where he began to worldwide fame, a Los Angeles Mansion, a visit to the White House, and a Legacy that will live well beyond his death today. Respect!

Got to see him once in '86 at Long Beach. This upcoming band, Metallica, opened for the Prince of Darkness. Great evening.

        Cause and Effect.

You have four lads from the Midlands who are starting a band and they put out their first album and its pretty much that like a lot of other bands in the UK, they are trying to emulate: CREAM. Geezer is doing his best Jack Bruce bassline, Bill is pounding out Ginger Baker fills, Iommi is cranking out his best Claptonesque licks and solos. Ozzy? Is doing a very Hammy Jack Bruce vocal. But it works and they go on and...

it's 1978 and they are tired, they are beat up and they are in trouble as their opening act is a band from Pasadena that is taking the world by storm.

It was coming and it is good that he did get that LAST gig with his band.

I feel a bit sad, but for me I think of all the people INVOLVED in his life and that have helped him with his career.

His FIRST WIFE: Thelma Riley, their kids: Louis, Jessica and (her son, from a previous marriage) Elliott.

RANDY RHOADS, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake

        Jake E. Lee, Randy Castillo

        Jeffrey Phillip Wielandt

        Max Norman

        Lemmy Kilmister

So many stories and he led a life that covers 10 lifetimes. My only concern is that $haron is gonna take this out on anyone who looks cross-eyed at her and it will not be pretty. She was never Sharon Osbourne, she has always been Sharon ARDEN. Ozzy and Randy are together again, and Lemmy is reunited with his mate. I just hope they are all at peace.

Nice, lucky you. I've been going through videos lately of Metallica from that '86 tour and they were absolutely relentless, good lord.

RIP Ozzy. Been aware of him since about '82 when i saw a poster for Speak of the Devil at my record store and was like WTH. Became a fan a few years later when Ultimate Sin was released. Became a bigger fan of Sabbath in the 90s as a teeneager and still listen to them (these days im more into the less appreciated Sabatoge & Technical Ecstasy).

Black Sabbath is my favorite band of all time! I’m glad they got to do one last show together with the original members of the band. Fortunate enough to see him many times over the years both with Sabbath and his solo tours. Especially fortunate to see the “Diary of a Madman” tour with Randy Rhoads!

One of the greatest frontmen ever…RIP OZZY!!

I saw him there that year too, Ultimate Sin Tour, on 06/14/86, my one & only Ozzy concert, wild night!

Now, it's possible that I may have been over served that evening, but I seem to remember that during the Metallica set, audience members were removing parts of their seats and flinging them in the air like frisbees. But one thing is for sure, Dark Shadow, you and I got to see Cliff Burton Pulling Teeth, which was pretty f 'n rad.
