13 Animated Alex Toth Projects That Could Have Been
13 Animated Alex Toth Projects That Could Have Been
Over on 13th Dimension I celebrate the birthday of master comic and animation artist Alex Toth with 13 animated projects that he did designs and pitches for that never quite made it to air...at least in the format intended!
Love me some Toth. I saw a lot of the unused designs when I read Genius Animated, a fantastic overview of Toth's work in animation (and part of a trilogy including Genius Illustrated and Genius Isolated which en total make a fantastic biography and overview of his career).
If you're interested in Toth, you should also check out Paul Fricke's podcast (also available on youtube) called Alex Toth in Depth.
Here's the first ep of In Depth

Wow, amazing research. I only knew of the Lost in Space pilot.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
That Cindy Williams clone was too damn perfect! He really nailed whatever he was working on and his work ethic was unmatched!!
Space Avenger? Space Ghost meets Johnny Quest???
the Gang from G.A.L.A.X.Y. looked like it could have been another Sealab 2020 type of show.
DIAL H for HEROES just blows me away. The fact that it was considered for TV is just mind blowing!!
yes, I have that Lost in Space pilot on video as many of you do too. Isn't it weird that Bill, Marta. Angela or anyone else was asked to participate?
Dr. Sivana, King Kull and Mr. Atom! WOW! In an alternate Earth this happened and I would love to see the episodes. Notice how LUTHOR Got the ELBOW!
Alex Toth is a standard of professionalism that only a few reach.
I also loved the HB ad and Looking at the old HB Address (3400 Cahuenga Blvd.) and I remember all the times driving on the 101 and looking over when I pass by the building. Memories.
If I remember right, (Mr. Big Bassist) Billy Sheehan lived right around there when he first came to LA, right before he joined David Lee Roth's band. Memories.
Well done, Chris
