I'm happy to say that my 3 year old loves the Charlie Brown specials. He hasn't seen the Christmas one yet, but I'm sure he'll like it just as much as the others. He really laughs at the Snoopy vs Folding Chair scene in the Thanksgiving special. He also thinks the "I got a rock." line from the Halloween special is hilarious.

Well of all the Charlie Brown holiday specials, the Thanksgiving one is my least favorite. There's just not as much material to explore for Thanksgiving as there is for Christmas or Halloween. The riding in the back of the station wagon does bring back memories though.Comment

I think I noticed the canibalism last year. I didn't notice Lucy being there, or Franklin having to sit "away" from the white folk. That seems wrong! But Franklin was probably the first black cartoon character that wasn't a racial stereotype.
As far as not inviting Lucy, I never could stand her. I appreciate the family guy where Peter punches her in the nose.

Lucy makes an appearance at the beginning of the show where she pulls the football away from Charlie Brown.
There is a new digitally enhanced DVD release of "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" with a small documentary that does discuss the Woodstock Cannibalism.
I don't remember if it was Bill Melendez or Lee Melendez who mentioned that it was really strange that Woodstock was eating turkey while he was a bird himself and that they should really think of cutting the scene. In the end, they left in there and hoped no one would notice....
As a side note, I always like looking for screw ups in the animation. Anyone else notice that Snoopy serves Peppermint Patty her plate of food but when they cut back to him serving another plate of food, hers is missing? Apparently, they reused scenes to help save on production cost and I guess this one just slipped through the cracks.
It was also interesting to find out that the voice of Peppermint Patty was actually a boy actor."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."
