I love music. But when I was a freshman in college in 1988, I'd never heard of Sly and the Family Stone for whatever reason. That is, until a history professor in a large lecture hall began enthusiastically quoting some of their lyrics and contextualizing their place in US History. The line I remember best was, "Thank you falettinme be mice elf again." When I heard of Sly's passing, I immediately thought back to this....

        Different strokes for different folks.

Not sure if the TV show was inspired by that , but who knows? Yes, I was/AM a fan of the Family Stone. Larry Graham (bassist) got his start here and he carved out a pretty good career.

        "I am everyday People"

"I am no better and neither are you
We are the same whatever we do
You love me, you hate me, you know me and then
You can't figure out the bag I'm in"

Truer words were never sung, the man (and the band!) were brilliant and they came at the right time and were pioneers of the funk movement.

        "It's a family affair"

Sly was not the marrying kind, like me. And I am in NO position to judge anyone on their marital status. Did he screw up? Yeah, but so do a lot of other people and it seems his children have forgiven him.

        "Everybody is STAR"

He had that $Million$$ Dollar smile and When I listen to this tune, I can't help but feel that whenever ANYONE listened to this tune, he made YOU feel like the star even though he was the one!!

RIP Sylvester. I will miss you, thank you and good night.
