    R.I.P. Jay North

Sad day in the Comic Book world. The original Dennis the Menace has died at the age of 73 following a lengthy battle with cancer. North gained fame as a young star and later spoke openly about the personal struggles he faced during and after his time in Hollywood.

Dennis the Menace show ran for four seasons. North also portrayed Dennis in commercials for brands like Kellogg’s and Skippy Peanut Butter and made crossover appearances on The Donna Reed Show and The Red Skelton Show.

North continued acting in projects like Zebra in the Kitchen (1965) and Maya, and guest-starred in The Lucy Show, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and My Three Sons.

His voice work included The Banana Splits Adventure Hour and The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show. His final on-camera appearance was in the 2003 documentary Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star. The beloved star is survived by his wife and three stepdaughters. (Yahoo news)

I'm old enough to remember the show. It wasn't a favorite, it was usually on afternoons and on Saturday mornings.

I hope he had a good life and didn't have any of the grief other kid actors had.

    Rip Mr. North.

Dennis the Menace was a perrenial show as a kid. It seemed like it would always be on somewhere in syndication, and then it just disappeared sometime in the mid-80s. Maybe it was the DiC animated series being syndicated? I know somewhere in the late 80s Dennis stopped being the spokes-character for Dairy Queen as well. Either way, I enjoyed the show as a kid, and North always seemed very natural, like a real kid. I think he was probably a better actor than a lot of his contemporaries in that regards.
