It's from the Honolulu Mint ...
Endangered Species ...Kohola Humpback Whale
.999 silver on card .. proof minted - dated 2001
I called the Honolulu mint to get more info.
He said it's 1 ounce.
The guy said the coin is long out of production.
He said try searching for more info (on what it's worth) on the internet.
I looked, it's nowhere to be found.
Do any of you guys think it might be worth more than the silver content ?
The coin you have must be some sort of special "collectible" because there isn't a Honolulu mint and not considered a U.S. minted coin.
Silver bullion collectors generally go after the 1 ounce Eagles but the mint charges a pretty high premium on them so some silver collectors will look for Canadian silver or silver coins of other countries since the spead isn't so high.
There is a website coinflation.com which will tell you the melt value of silver in any of the old silver coins. If you look around antique stores, you can sometimes find old Silver Morgan dollars that may not be collectible from a numismatic point of view but you can grab them for less than the going price of silver.
