I don't understand where the programmers are coming from on these channels. Let's take music: if you wanted to watch a rock video, you turned on MTV. Then, after that channel became nothing but Real World marathons, you could look at MTV2. This was the channel that would focus on music. Now, it's no better than the original.

VH1 has followed suit as has CMT (which I don't watch but have noticed in the guide).

Where are you supposed to watch videos? The last bastion is VH1 Classics and I expect it to succumb to this disease any day.

Too late for VH-1 Classic. They've aired stuff like Adventures In Babysitting among others.

These channels change their formats because, obviously, they ain't gettin' enuff viewers which means they can't effectively sell advertising.

Yeah, it sucks. At least you can watch crappy, low-resolution versions of whatever video you want on YouTube. It does take the spontaneity out of it when you have to look it up rather than just see whatever the VJs want to play next (I know that was never how it worked with programming, but you know what I mean). I still remember watching videos on "Night Tracks"! Those were the days!
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

The Day after Tomorrow, Posiedon Adventure, The Day the Earth Caught Fire, Monolith Monsters...plenty more weather movies. Misery does use weather as a plot device, they get snowed in.
