The 2024 Total Solar Eclipse

I'm in an area of NYS where I'll be fortunate enough to enjoy about 1m 40s of totality (assuming the weather cooperates). If I traveled a few miles north or west I'd get more, but I'm good sticking at home and avoiding what will be busy roadways.

Anyone have any plans to enjoy this historic astronomical event?

We're right in the prime path where we are in Ohio, Schools and some businesses are closing and several events are planned. Our public libraries were giving away free eclipse glasses etc. So I plan to try to check it out, but our forecast is for clouds and rain all day, so I'm not sure how much we will actually see.

we are not quite at the totality, but plan to check things out thru the big south facing picture window of the building we are in. Can't really go outside for a bunch of crazy reasons, but we will hopefully get a little bit of a show. I need to find some safety glasses.

I'm in Illinois, also in the direct path. Schools and a lot of businesses are closing for this as well. This will be similar for us as the 2017 event, and it will be something we'll spend some time watching it for sure.

Never mind the eclipse, didn’t you guys get a 4.8 earthquake today? it was even felt in some area’s in Massachusetts.

I saw the last one we had in the States, but have to miss this one. I live in Oregon and it's way to far to travel to get anywhere that's having totality. The last one has got to be the most amazing thing I've ever seen!

yes, the earthquake was crazy, i was watching TV and the whole house started shaking. no reports of damages from what i hear

I'm right in the path. My job told people to work from home because of the anticipated crowds and traffic. I thought about going somewhere, but I think I will just stay home or walk to the local park -- wherever I think I will get the best view. I have my glasses and I am very much looking forward to it!

In Houston we are expecting 80% cloud cover at the time of eclipse so I don’t expect to see a lot. We are near but not in the path of totality but supposed to get 94% eclipse. The view without clouds is supposed to be similar to what we got for the annular ring of fire eclipse so I plan to set my phone up once again with the filter and the telescope.

I'm in central Ohio right on the eastern border of totality. The wife and I took the day off and we plan to head north and/or west to try for 2-3 min of totality. Being in Ohio, that just means the clouds will be dark, but what can you do? I just hope the traffic isn't too crazy. The small towns I'm looking at don't appear to have a lot of parking.

We got the partial eclipse with extra in Portland. Sun, moon, clouds, earth...
Clouds suck.

My Brother-in-Law lives in Indiana. He took these. Said the birds went quiet and the crickets went HAM.

Got pretty dark in Illinois, had about a 10 degree temp swing as well.
