I was washing dishes as a teen in the lowest greasy spoon diner you can imagine. Like a real life Mel’s Diner but nowhere near as clean. We had a wall phone with a rotary dial and the dial had a lock on it. You couldn’t dial out. But if you tapped the switch hooks holding the receiver, you could dial anywhere. Like tap it seven times for a 7 and so forth. Zero was ten. It worked and it drove the old lady owner crazy when people would dial long distance when nobody had a key. Not a skill you need anymore. I wonder if it still works

Oh this is just going to be a sad thread....
Any of you need any help with an IBM AS/400 Mainframe system, just let me know...
Are you setting up a state of the art corporate office and require a T1 or ISDN connected to your token ring network, give me a call!
Or if you need help with some OG pencil on paper drafting/design done, I'm your guy.

In the fifth grade we spent a week learning how to use a slide rule. We were told it would really come in handy. It hasn’t yet.Comment

I used to be able to tune the UHF dial, the soft dial that didn’t click like the VHF dial, like nobody’s business when I was six. This was important since channel 39 was where Star Trek lived.Comment

In High School I learned to develop and print my own camera film. I was part of the yearbook and newspaper staff back then and we had our own room just for this purpose. Back then there wasn't even an adult to supervise us.
