That reminds me that I had a mini explosion in our van a few months ago. It sounded like a backfire, but I heard something hit the glass in the back. It turned out to be Ethan's hot chocolate...which was fermenting in one of those nonspill containers. What a mess that made! It took awhile to clean up.

That would have scared the daylights out of me. I'm glad that it wasn't serious

Funny that you mentioned this story.

My son (who just turned 15) was asking me questions about how alcohol is made (go figure).

I have always answered questions to the best of my ability and truthfully and started to tell him how fruit will naturally ferment and that you can basically make any fruit into some alcohol based product.

He asked about bananas and my response was that I'm sure it's possible...I'm just not sure if I have know of a well known product made of fermented bananas.

Perhaps there is a patent in there somewhere. If kids get to hear about this, it could start a new craze lol

I did the same thing with a bottle of sparkling water in my freezer, planned on drinking it but the kids made it slip my mind. A large "BLAM!" an hour later left me with a freezer full of broken glass stuck to everything. Want a popsicle?

My teenaged cohorts and I were pretty interested in making our own substances at that age as well. This was on the list, but we never tried to make it. I always suspected it was probably a crock, but it was an interesting proposition at the time.

In Eighth Grade, some of my friends and I did a little experiment like that.

We got by with it....since it was an "experiment".

Funny, no one asked us about the "results".
