Well, normally I would be on the side of the patrons .... But in this case they had a party of 8 people and the gratuity tip was mandatory no matter how good or bad the service was ... Not paying it was like not paying part of the check.
I worked at a uppity restaurant that tacked on 15 percent for the tip. This was mostly due to the largely Canadian population that was used to it being included to avoid the waiters being stiffed.

that isn't right! No real service, and you had to get your own, utensils and refills, that such BS! I've had to do the same, because of bed service, than I'd maybe leave a dollar or two, depends how bad it was.
Wait, I don't get it. Tips are mandatory and not paying that is theft? Are you ****ing kidding me?
Many places and states have a law that if your party is greater than a certain size you MUST leave a tip (a specified amount or more) whether you like it or not.

That's nuts. Tips are included in the price over here. It's not mandatory to leave a tip, but it is appreciated of course

the hell with that, if you suck I ain't giving you ****! I went to Universal Studios a year ago and they had this special that said you get movie tickets and a meal and any of the restaurants listed for $20 or something like that, we did it and chose the Hard Rock cafe, we went in to eat a couple of burgers and when they saw that we had the vouchers they started treating us like crap, sat us towards the back by the exit, the waiter didn't even acknowledge us, I said ok no problem, I knew I wasn't getting a bill cause it was already prepaid, i ate my burger and walked my happy *** right out that exit which was 2 feet away and didn't leave ****!!
That's just CRAP! A tip is a reward for good service, it's NOT the bill. If you get rotten service, you shouldn't be required to leave a tip. Makes you never wanna eat out again.
