Rogar Corman is being honored tonight in Hollywood By the Academy Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. a Black Tie Dinner and of Course an Oscar! .They usually give them out in March but the ACADEMY is Breaking tradition .its about time he was honored a pioneer in Independent B -Films

I had a talk (and dinner) with Corman about eight years ago.
Fascinating guy, he sure got things done on a shoestring budget.
But it has to be said, he used to waltz over people to get his way. Some people never wanted to work with him again (read Bob Burns' book about it).
But think of it: during his "regime", gifted amateurs actually got the chance to just "come do their thing" on a movie set. Those were the days when there was less red tape. You showed some pictures of your sculpts, and Corman said "OK, you can start tomorrow."
So many veterans got their first start with Corman. He had a nose for talent (that was still cheap back then). James Cameron, Jack Nicholson,....

And yeah, I remember the first time I saw The Raven I about peed myself when I saw a young Jack Nicholson in that medieval outfit
