That actually hurt to watch & listen......her live performance with Stevie Nicks last night on the Grammy's was terrible (their duet begins at 2:25...Rhiannon):

Makes me glad I don't watch the Grammys. I just dont have the pain threeshold to endure Taylor Swift vocally eviscerate Rhiannon. The Dixie Chicks brutalizing Landslide was bad enough for me.
However, her live performance with Stevie Nicks last night on the Grammy's was terrible (their duet begins at 2:25 ...Rhiannon):

I don't know how good Taylor Swift is generally speaking (and I don't honestly care). She seems to be a nice person, though, and that counts for something.

Wouldn't do the poster industry any good either.
She can sing, but every time I see her I can't help but picture Benny Hill in drag.
It is completely a marketing deal. You need a balance of everything. Age, looks, and singing. They'll definitly swap some singing ability for a more marketable look.
After doing two years of concert security and seeing some of what goes on behind the curtain, I'm amazed at how they can remember the words. Some of these people couldn't pass pre school entrance exams.
They have people to do everything from tooth brushing to butt wiping. They can't do squat for themselves. It's no wonder once the record companies use them up they fall apart. Not that it's just the music industry, you see it in sports, movies, etc. just as much. Most kids want to be actors or singers, but the real job to have is as an executive in the entertainment industries. They're the only ones with longevity. They use one person up and move on to the next.Leave a comment:

For a while, then her "lack of charisma" will knock her down quite a few pegs.
BlueMeanie keeps asking how she got a record contract
---and the answer is that the bulk of recording contracts were
never primarily "about" great singers or great musicians.
Great songs maybe...but that's about it.
Record contracts are about performers who have enough
charisma to "sell".
Apparently TAYLOR SWIFT is loaded with enough charisma
to have gotten her this far.
If it's not your thing, then that's fine, but it's a fact that being
a major singer in this world you need a lot more stuff than a "great voice".
Can you imagine a pop scene defined by hundreds of "Susan Boyles".
It'd kill the whole industry QUICKLY

>Sadly that's a lot of what pop music is these days.
I don't think it's a new phenomenon. Think back to all the generic crooners of the 50's. Or 90's Grunge. Or 80's Hair metal. Or Disco. *shudder* Pop music by iot's very nature HAS to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, and to do so they middle of the road it a lot of the time. Until a definite trend presents itself. Think Nelly Furtado; started out as generic poppy-happy-crappy, once rap hit went all "urban." Was disposable either way.
>My Old Lady likes that Lady GaGa Chick
Wanna mess with her? Next time a GaGa song is playing, get her to close her eyes and think "Madonna."
>I guess this why the world is so taken with Susan Boyle.
Yup.

I guess this why the world is so taken with Susan Boyle. She is like a breath of fresh air in an industry that more often than not chooses looks and style over ability and genuine talent.Leave a comment:

My Old Lady likes that Lady GaGa Chick..., She's got interesting sounds..., but I can't understand A Flipp'in Word She Say's .
