    KISS @ Chicago's United Center 2day. Going?

The whole family is making the drive today to go see KISS.
The United Center in Chicago doesn't really seem to have much going for it in terms of area.
I can't seem to find much info other than "um, don't walk too far because of neighborhood" and "stay away from the liquor store across the street"

I have no idea what the area is like.

I'd like to get there somewhere around 5pm to get a good parking spot (to the tune of probably $35) and then wander for a couple hours....sounds like wandering is not in the cards if the area is this borderline.

    Anyone else going?
    Anyone familiar with the area?

The Chicago Bulls play here btw.

            well, we survived :-)
We ended up just driving straight there.
Left Decatur at 3pm....got into some bumper to bumper, 10mph traffic around the 94 expressway, but it didn't last too long.
Got at the Center and the "immediate" area was pretty safe. Plenty of workers everywhere, very well lit up, fenced in.
We were actually walking to our gate around 6:30pm.
They started letting everyone in just as we approached that mile long line...thank god, it was pretty windy and chilly out.
I had my FlipCam in (clears throat) an "area"....we didn't even get pat down!! They did extremely random "wave-of-the-wand" scans.
The actual Center was pretty nice inside....and they had food everywhere, every floor. A little pricey...nice BIG slab of deep dish pizza was only $5, whereas a large Coke was $6.25.
I was a little surpised by the T-Shirt prices....$40-$45 was the going rate.
Our seat were waaaay up there (section 310) but it was what I wanted; a straight-on shot so we could experience all of the light show....granted, the guys on stage looked about two inches high, but the HD screen behind the drumkit was every bit the length of the whole stage and boy was it great HD resolution.
I had a perfect spot a couple seats away from the isle, but based on layout, no chairs in front of me since I was right by railing.
I stood my FlipCAm up on the floor and shot the whole two hours. I was a little nervous, but I soon saw the ushers didn't care one flipping bit....people would stand right next to the usher, whip their cam out, shoot some video, walk away...
The biggest problem was the beer drinkers...I bet we had to standup, get out of their way at least a dozen times so they could make more beer runs and go pea or whatever. I had to move my cam every time and that's just not right!! hahaha
Annnnd what would a KISS concert be without 'illegal substance abuse". There was people all around us smokin' it up...dunno what one guy was smokin, but it smelled just like a dead skunk.
The show ended and we all had a pretty good time...
we were trying to find the spot to pick up our recording of the evening (Concert Online) and in doing so, I bumped into a guy I went to High School with!! 19 years since we've seen each other!! He lives in Peoria and made the trip...how cool is that?

That woulda been me bro.....gonna upload mine today.
I opted for the thumb drive...I can download Disc 2 today.
I got a dozen pics of the evening on the thumb drive also...did the cds come with pics too?

Soon as I figure out how to edit the FlipCam video files, I'll probably just upload em. We were distant, the guys look two inches tall, but you get to see the whole shebang...light show, fire, explosions, everything.

Ticked me off everytime I had to move it because of all the people leaving our row all the time, but ohh well.

                    Index of /kiss

Just zipped up the thumb drive. It has a little KISS program if you want to use the interface.
Also got the Encore stuff downloaded and it's there too.

                    Enjoy.

Didn't see this thread 'til just now.....

I was at the show Friday, section 205 row 1. So we weren't too far away from you and just below you....the 200 sections are awesome because they're only like 9 rows deep and pretty short seat-wise (we had seats 11 and 12 and we were right on the aisle). I specifically wanted the first row in the section for exactly the reasons you mentioned dealing with......I didn't have to be bothered with people being in our way much, other than once or twice getting up for bathroom/concession break. Other than getting up to applaud a few times, I sat most of the show. I guess I'm getting old, haha. But not having a row of heads in front of me was a good thing.

I had friends who sat in section 312, and I saw the pics they took from there, and it was still a great view. There's really not a bad seat in that place, I think. And while the neighborhood isn't the greatest I think people exaggerate it a bit, as there's always loads of security and police around during an event like this.

T-shirts were averaging $40 but there were a few that were as low as $20. I picked one of those up, and I'm pretty happy with it.

Overall, I gotta say it was one of the best KISS shows I've ever attended, and I've seen them around 30 times or so now over the years. They really seemed re-energized, they were tight and Gene in particular was doing his best "Demon" routine than I've seen him do for many years now. It was worth every penny.
