Steinbrenner when he bought the Yankees paid nothing for them they were a franchise in decay and he put back money in to them 3 years later they went to their first World series in 12 years. then after that He ran them horribly and they didn't win for another 18 years until the the late 90's run.
as a matter of fact smaller market teams won championships in those years when they were horrible.Comment

MArlins have the best scouting in BB, What they do they it on purpose. They are always at the bottom of the payroll list yet continue to put up 500 or better teams with a small payroll. Then when the players get to the end of their contract the sell them off. Once in a while they get lucky and put to gether a playoff team for low cost. It seems to work for them.
I think I saw one of there scouts in the antarctic!Comment

America loves an underdog.
That's why they cheered when Boston broke their series losing streak.
Did they cheer the next year? Nope. By that point they were just "buying" the series, because their payroll rivaled the Yankees.
So to those who say the Yankees buy their wins... sour grapes, my friends. They win because they are good. They are good because the owners invest in the team and don't sell or trade off their players ('97 Marlins, I'm talking to you!) You see, actually KEEPING the players that helped the team win, ON the team...helps you keep winning!
Oh, someone bring up Giambi, or chant A-Roid, please.....
To that, I respond with a Mark McGwire and a Barry Bonds... both admitted performance enhancement users, both entered the record books...both did so while NOT wearing the navy pinstripes adorned with the stylized NY. My point, roids are everywhere in Baseball, probably even in YOUR favorite teams.
Yup, I'm a Yankee fan. I've been one since I was born in '76. Been one through wins, and the awful 80's where we had a good team that just couldn't win no matter what. I'm happy when they win. I'm sad when they lose.
But that's not today, guys... old Yankee tradition: when you build a new stadium, you win the series that year. It's like a rule.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
