Your favorite underrated/less remembered movie

One of my favorite underrated movies is a Executive Decision

Executive Decision (1996)

I have it on DVD and when it is on TV and I stumble on to it, it keeps me watching even though I know how it comes out.

Like any movie like this, it's a bit far fetched but I'll tell you, due to 9/11 it's a bit less far fetched then it was when I first saw it in the theater in 1996.

But passing similarities to future real events aside, this is just a good thriller with some great moments and with another great Jerry Goldsmith score. Plus it has Kurt Russell, which always helps.

This movie generated a bit of buzz because lots of people that went to see it, didn't know that top billed Steven Segall gets killed off 40 minutes into the movie (with a pretty cool hero's death). I didn't know and it sure surprised me.

Kurt Russell is top billed...as a matter of fact...Seagal is not even cited in the opening credits.

...and I do love this movie...simply because of that very same reason...Seagal's character DIES...lol...

I believe some one all ready mentioned OVER THE EDGE which was played to death on HBO back in the early 80s but i thought it was a good movie which no one rembers

One of my all time favourite comedies has to be " blame it on the rio", with a very young Demi Moore.

Oh my, that Michelle Johnson was SO, SO very hot..!!

Totally agree on 'Sky Captain' and will include 'The Phantom'; I'm watching 'Phantom' now on my iPod here at Fort Lewis (during my mob here..), and it's great.

Rana, the legend of Shadow Lake.

I rented this years ago (on VHS).
The guy seemed amazed that anyone would rent it (it actually had dust on it), and insisted I keep it.

There's one scene where two characters are having a conversation.
Behind them, a goat wanders in to the scene, definitely a "method actor/improv" kind of goat, because as the actors talk, the goat clambers up the kitchen table, loses balances and crashes down on the floor.

And they just kept that in the movie. The actors never interrupted their dialogue, just kept going.

That goat should have made it big in Hollywood, if only he had had a better agent...

I would definitely say "Rock And Rule", which CTC just mentioned. So few people I know have ever even heard of it, such a shame. Great animation, funny dialogue, amazing soundtrack.

Also, I really love the film "ROADIE", starring MeatLoaf, Alice Cooper, Blondie, Art Carney and more. The story is ridiculous, about a hillbilly trucker who gets swindled into becoming a rock & roll touring roadie and all the crazy stuff that happens to him. But it's good fun and there's some laugh out loud moments. And again, amazing music.....Blondie performing "Ring Of Fire", Alice Cooper doing a rare performance of "Pain", and performances by Roy Orbison, Hank Williams Jr., etc.

Another one I don't hear much about that I thought was a cool film was "Victory" starring Sylvester Stallone, Michael Caine, Max Von Sydow and soccer pro Pele'. About WWII prisoners of war in a German camp who are recruited to play soccer and use it as a means of plotting their escape.

Speaking of Stallone, another underrated film of his is "Paradise Alley", about three brothers trying to get by in NY/NJ during the early 1940s, and Stallone talks his younger brother into becoming a professional wrestler in order to earn them money and notoriety. Starring Stallone, Armand Assante, Terry Funk, and more.

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I know the story kinda stinks, and Jude Law wasnt much of a choice to be a heroic character, but I love this film nonetheless. It has a live action Fliescher Cartoon look to it that I think was perfect for the film. Those flying/walking robots, ray guns, cooky scientists...everything was right up my alley!

That's a really good film, I like it too.

Kung Fu Hustle. Dubbed version I don't care for. Loved the subtitled version.

I love Stephen Chow, and this film is great. Parts of it are like a Warner Bros. cartoon brought to life. And yes, as with most Hong Kong films, the English dubbed version is horrible, you really gotta go with the Cantonese soundtrack and English subs.


For an underrated film (but I'm sure it's remembered) I'm gonna go with STARSHIP TROOPERS. I think the film is brilliant, but it didn't sit well with a lot of people who really didn't catch all the satire involved. Great SFX too, much of which still hold up today.

Another film I really like is CRANK. I know many people think it's the stupidest movie they ever saw, but that's part of the point of the film. You can't take it seriously, you just have to let the film carry you along for a fun, ridiculous ride. And it looks stunning on Blu-ray.

Yeah, he would have been great as the Captain....He's good with tongue in cheek comic book stuff like this.

The Rocketeer- many people disregard it as an Indiana Jones wanna be But It has a charm to it that still is endearing to me. Bill Campbell look liked he walked straight out of the comic.........ticks me off that Disney never made a sequel to it.

Rocketeer was a great film. Like Sky Captain and the Phantom film, it always seemed to be missing that one..something?...that would have pushed it into the blockbuster realm.
