Any East Coasties remember the Gettysburg Tower ?

Back in the old days Gettysburg was always a standard destination for a fast cheap trip ... We used to go the Gettysburg at least 3 times a year. ... As a kid my favorite part was going up in the Gettysburg National Tower...

For people who never heard of it, here's a quick description.
The tower was built in 1974 ON PRIVATE LAND near the National Cemetary.
For years the town tried to have it demolished calling it an eyesore and disrespectful to fallen soldiers.

Finally in 90's the US Government basically seized it with no real authority from it's private owner claiming the land is NOW part of the National Park.
They paid the owner a mere 3 million dollars and told him to get lost.

The US government then blew it up.

I found this video on youtube ..
It's a nice nostalgic look at the tower in its full glory.

Saw it when I went there in '87. My family just drove past it though.

      Cool tower, horrible video.
I used to play on the battlefields all the time as a kid, it was less than an hour away.

I got a bit of vertigo from watching the video. lol. So, I probably wouldn't have gone up. I've only been to Gettysburg once and that was two years ago.
        It's all good!
