Back in the old days Gettysburg was always a standard destination for a fast cheap trip ... We used to go the Gettysburg at least 3 times a year. ... As a kid my favorite part was going up in the Gettysburg National Tower...
For people who never heard of it, here's a quick description.
The tower was built in 1974 ON PRIVATE LAND near the National Cemetary.
For years the town tried to have it demolished calling it an eyesore and disrespectful to fallen soldiers.
Finally in 90's the US Government basically seized it with no real authority from it's private owner claiming the land is NOW part of the National Park.
They paid the owner a mere 3 million dollars and told him to get lost.
The US government then blew it up.
