A True Grit remake? a Short Circuit reboot?

    Really?
Matt Damon up for True Grit
4 hours ago | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

The Coen brothers are talking to Matt Damon and Josh Brolin to join the cast of their planned new version of True Grit. Jeff Bridges is already aboard for the lead as Us Marshal Rooster Cogburn (originally played by John Wayne) and Brolin would continue the run of the brothers using actors they've worked with before - since he starred in No Country For Old Men. If he signs, Brolin will play the murderous thug who kickstarts the murder that sends Cogburn after him into dangerous Native American territory.

Steve Carr To Direct Short Circuit
4 hours ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Good news, everyone – Steve Carr, director of those comedic colossi, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Daddy Day Care, Rebound and Dr. Dolittle 2, will next focus his considerable talents on the much-needed and eagerly-anticipated remake of Short Circuit. Yay and, if you have the time, woo.The John Badham-directed original, which seems to assumed cult classic status over the years despite not being very good, was about a robot named Johnny 5 who is imbued with sentience by a rogue lightning bolt. On the run from the military, Johnny 5 bonds with Ally Sheedy, and hilarious adventures are had by all.The Carr-directed remake retains essentially the same premise, although this time – for added emotional impact – Johnny 5 will bond with a lonely young boy. Christ almighty. To say our expectations for this movie have plummeted seems a little harsh. After all, they weren’t that high to begin with

True Grit was a book before the John Wayne movie. I haven't read it, but from what it's not quite the story we know from the John Wayne movie. With the Coen's making this, I'm there and actually quite anxious for it.

Normally I'm not big on remakes, but different interpretations of books I'm a little more flexible about.

I am truly torn about the whole true grit idea?
On one hand the book is excellent and the movie with JW was great but was not true to the book.If it was you would have seen far less of JW.

I think the coen will do a fantastic job and normally I would wholeheartedly agree to remake a JW western is a bad idea;however, This is Jeff Bridges we are talking about and he is no slouch in the acting department.

It has great potential if I can personally get past my childhood memories.

Short circuit though I really don't think it needs a reboot....Do you hear me hollywood!?!?!?!?!?

While I dont really like the idea of remaking a john Wayne movie, I am all over new westerns being made. In fact, we appear to be on the cusp of a bit of a western revival! Hope it continues.

Never cared for Short Circuit, so they can do whatever they want with it!

Steve Carr's IMDB page also lists "Iron Fist" in development. Hoo-boy.

Yea, I agree. I loved True Grit, but would also like to see it with Bridges and the others. Much more violent would be the route to go, I think.

                        Me, too.

                        New dialog:

Rooster Cogburn: When's the last time you saw Ned Pepper?

Emmett Quincy: I don't remember any Ned Pepper.

Rooster Cogburn: Short feisty fella, nervous and quick, got a cleft $^^hole.

                          T1K Mikey. . . ."THE MOVIE"!!

                          I love the idea. . .

OK. . . .who is gonna play the lead!

I guess that all those Wall-E toys, can easily be adjusted to short circuit toys without too much tinkering too.

Remaking the film True Grit is a total no no, however remaking the book into a film which is not like the original film is a good idea.

Remaking Short Circuit is an awful idea, i watched it the other day and it's great for what it is. The new version, robot bonds with little boy? BLAH!!!
