Worst thing Soupy ever did .......

Now bare in mind, he did this as a joke ......

On air, he told kids to go into their mother's pocketbooks and send him all the funny green papers inside.
If they did, he said he would send them a postcard from Puerto Rico.

Unfortunately for Soupy, some kids really did this and the station got swamped with ill-gotten money coming in.

The only thing the station could do was donate it all to charity and Soupy got yelled at big-time ... he may have gotten fired over it (i'm not sure)

In the late 70's-early 80's he had a late night show on TBS with his puppet friends. I used to watch him every night, and even sent in for an autographed picture, which sadly disappeared long ago. From what I've read online, he was in poor health the last few years, which is a sad end for such a funny guy. The one good thing about his passing is that Heaven just became that much cooler. RIP Soupy.

I was a tad too young to see the show, but I had some hand-me-down books and a record. RIP

Oh, man! I was just talking about him yesterday with a co-worker. We were looking up old tv shows from the 70's and he saw Soupy Sales show listed and commented on that.
