SWINE FLU - Roll the Dice!

Hey guys, just wanted a fresh start on this. Most folk get the swine flu and it is no biggy. Some folk get a real nasty bug. . . .. ang get over it. Others a very mild flu and get over it.

OTHERS. . . get it and DIE!!!! WITH NO. . .pre-existing or complicating conditions. Pefectly healthy people with no medical problems at all, get this and die. It is a random roll of the dice.

A friend from work, his sister died, young fit healthy mother of 2 in mid 30's.

No telling who gets it mild and who dies.

Also don't forget, it is often the second wave of the flu that wipes out with the most deaths.

Many Australians are getting this vaccine as soon as they can. We have had it sweep through here, wave 1, hundreds of deaths, many in healthy people.

I am a nurse, and work in a service with probably a couple of hundred nurses. As far as I know, we have all been and had it as soon as we could. I haven't heard of one person here in the health industry avoiding it.

At this stage kids under 10 years can;t have the vaccine, but the data/research should be out at the end of the year, and as soon as I am able, I will get my 9 and 7 year olds vaccinated. Won't delay.

It is a personal choice. But make no mistake. . .this bug kills healthy people, as we saw here in Australia, having got the bug early and wide spread.

For my family and my loved ones. . . .it is vaccinate as soon as you can. The second wave, as with the 1918 Spanish flu, may be the one that kills the most people. some estimates as high as 50 million world wide in 1918.

For me, One death in my family would be too many, if I knew there was a vaccine, and I didn't get it for them. And I already know one friend who lost someone, and a few others that have died, in the wider circle of people I associate with.

The they(the medical people) clear up the rumors/issues with the vaccine's side effects, nerve damage? Several local doctors are not getting it due to this.

Well. . . .I haven't seen one report of any side effects. . . .only SCARE reports of what MAY happen.

Lets keep a score here. For every confirmed report of an actual side effect, anyone gets from the vaccine. . . . . list it here. . . . .it will be a very empty thread (hopefully. . .LOL). Fear goes a long way. . .and facts are often swallowed up and lost in media hype of things that never happen, and a lot of people get hurt, for a few people to make money grabbing headlines.

BUT. . . . .everyone has a choice, just use your brain. Look for ANY ACTUAL reports of side effects.

Not sure if I ever mentioned this, but my grandmother and grandfather died of the Spanish flu in the United States back around 1917-18-ish

They were buried in an unmarked mass grave and to this day we only have a general idea of where it is.

My wife went home to visit her family, and picked it up. She has it right now. She's staying there until she's better.
It isn't that I'm not concerned, but the Common Flu kills 36,000 people a year, and something like 40,000 die in traffic accidents in the US. You gotta die of something and the whole journey is a crap shoot if you ask me.

I'm not even sure if the H1N1 vaccine is approved here.

Yeah, well the shot is free here, an we have 22 Million Australians and the Govt has ordered 21 million doses, and would like everyone to get it. That doesn't make it a great idea of course. . . . Govt do a lot of crappy things. But, I do think the benefits (for me and my family anyway), outway any potential risk, by millions to 1.

Hypothetical example, Dr Bones Leneod McCoy, helps his father, "PASS ON", only to have a cure found to the illness a few weeks later. REAL Example, friend I work with whose Sister (Healthy normal person), dies weeks before the vaccine is released. . . .wouldn't you wish you could turn back the clock?

Worse still. . . .not getting you or a child vaccinated, and they are the unfortunate 1 in a 100 that die from the flu. . . . .how do you live with yourself, particularly when in hindsight, all those horrible media reports that scared you off getting it, turn out to be a load of cods wallop, because. . . . .almost noone or no one at all, gets the scarey things they are warning about!

            I didn't feel a thing. . . .but I did have a headache for 2 days. . . . then maybe a slight chestyness. . . . .but may not have been related to the shot.

We had a really bad flu year a couple of years back, and I think there was like 50 something flu deaths, related to that years strain, whereas we have had hundreds of swine flu deaths this year alone. And the Hospitals had trouble coping, particularly having enough ICU beds and here in Queensland, we were helicoptering patients down to New South Wales, hundreds of kilometers away, because we had no more ICU beds left in the state. A lot survived. . . but man. . . . .were they sick and touch and go. . . .then the hundreds that died.

I have lost my father, and a brother in Traffic accidents (sadly both to drunk drivers). If I could have Vaccinated them against that risk. . . . .I wish I could have. The Flu I can, and will. Why take the risk. Regret is an awful thing to live with.

Good Luck to you and your wife too. I am sure she will be absolutely fine, as the vast majority of people are. Hope she has an easy time of it. . . . . . . and behave yourself whilst she is gone too!

As I mentioned in the other thread my wife,my three children and myself will be getting vaccinated on the 30th.Both regular flu shot and H1N1 shot.

One of the guys at work I know got it and was sick for several weeks,he was very healthy. He lost 35lbs and is still feeling the effects.

That is my youngest daughters total weight, half of my sons body weight and a third of my oldests body weight. Not worth taking a chance if you ask me.Not to say it would affect them the same just an example. My son is also asthmatic.
I would never make my kids do something I wouldn't so I will take the shot as well.I will go first.
I watched doctor Oz take the shot on TV as well...LOl

After reading all these posts, i'm still undecided! But I wonder why Doctor OZ wont give his children the Swine H1N1 vaccine? What kind of studies were done on the vaccine?

Are you guys taking anything extra such as Vitamins, herbs or whatever to boost your Immunes during the Flu season?

Also isnt the regular Flu vaccine different every year also? If so, then the regular Flu shot should be just as risky as the Swine Flu vaccine right? Its not like they give us the same Regular Flu shot every year is it? They must guess which Flu is coming and rush to make the vaccine for that flu, leaving little time for long term studies! No?

Yeah I take Vitamin C, Vitamin B, Multivitamens, among others daily.

The best thing I ever did was. . . . .GIVE UP SMOKING!!!! I used to get colds all the time, then, they would turn into chest infections, and I had multiple bouts of pneumonias through my late 20's and early 30's. Now. . . .I haven't had a flu in a couple of years. . . .I get the odd sore throat. . . .showing the vitamins are working and my body is fighting things off.

The Flu Vax each year, usually protects against 3 strains, the three most common from the previous year, as they change and mutate over time. . . .their is no live flu antigens in the vaccines, what you get is enough to give you anti-bodies, but you can't GET the flu from it. You can get the vax, then get a different strain of the flu though. . . .so it certainly isn;t a perfect system.

The Swine flu though. . . . whilst mild in many people, kills a lot more than any normal flu. If you don;t want to take the vaccine that is fine, but I would get your kids done if you don't want to risk them being one of the unlucky ones. At this stage you have to be 10 years and older to get it, but hopefully early next year the kids can get it too.

My 7 year old was invited into the study for it, but my wife (a paediatric nurse), didn;t want her used as a pin cushion, as you have to have 7 needles (mostly blood tests for antibodies) over 6 months. If it were up to me alone. . . I would have had her in the study and been happy she was protected.

I have added a lot of foods that are high in Vitamin C ( broccoli , OJ , etc. ) Zinc, Multi vitamins, seasonal Flu Shot. What I am not doing is getting that H1N1 shot. I just do not feel it's been tested enough or thoroughly.
