Any Coin Collectors here?

I found this coin this morning garage selling. I thought it said 1938. I get it home and discover it is 1838 and it is either gold or silver. It was so dirty, I could not tell, it was black and a dull brass color. It is a little bigger than a silver dollar. I take it to a jeweler and he tested it, it is silver.

Still not bad for a 25 cent garage sale purchase!!!

I know a bit about treasure coins and I can tell you that the front of that coin was hand engraved.

You have a Republic of Mexico 1833 8 Reales, Zacatecas Mint, OM is the assayer. The design shows a Liberty cap at the center, the word LIBERTAD across the band./Eagle with out stretched wings, wreath and REPUBLICA MEXICANA above: Value between $10 -$125. depending on grade.

The one thing that bugs me is the hole on top.

I bet somebody drilled it and made it into a medallion.

It is not a hole, looks like it got stabbed with an ice pick or something. It does not show on the back.
