I thought this thread is supposed to be about deceased performers or acts that are no longer performing: Jerry Lee Lewis isn't dead and he hasn't completely stopped touring either... He still occasionally does shows in the US and he's on a European tour right now. Also, there's a new CD in the works with the title track ("Mean Old Man") available on Amazon.com right now.... JLL dead? Far from it...

The Monkees aren't dead either, and several folks (including myself) mentioned them. No longer around could also mean no longer popular, performing, or making any personal appearances.

                  Freddy Mercury, without a doubt.
                  Beethoven.
                  The Doors.
                  Jimi Hendrix.
Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

                  Amy Winehouse. (I plan ahead)

To The Bat, regarding my post regarding Jerry Lee Lewis, you had this to say:

... I didn't say you said he was dead, but I did say that I took it that the thread was supposed to be about either dead performers or non-performers and Jerry Lee doesn't fall into either catagory, at least not these days...

HardyGirl, in response to your post where you stated: "The Monkees aren't dead either, and several folks (including myself) mentioned them. No longer around could also mean no longer popular, performing, or making any personal appearances" I already said that, though not in so many words... If you had read my post, you'll see that I said: "I thought this thread is supposed to be about deceased performers or acts that are no longer performing.

And as far as The Monkees go, while they're not dead, it is very unlikely they'll ever perform together, especially with the way Jones has been bad-mouthing all of them these days... But if they do ever reform, it will probably be Dolenz, Tork, and Jones... Nesmith is A) Too busy running his company as well as being on several different boards and B) He's on record as saying he really doesn't care for touring.

When looking at The Stones you'd say some of them are already dead and mummified.

                        The Undead Stones....

i have seen queen and pink floyd ('88 no waters but still great) - both with very good seats. i have also seen a bunch of the other bands some of you mentioned-

                          that leaves

                          The Beatles
The (younger) Rolling Stones (it may seem like they are still around but they ceased to exist on the Steel Wheels tour. -this band is an overpriced remnant of the past)
The Who (with Moon) I saw them w/o and they were OK
                          Elvis -pre vegas
Eagles - before hell froze over - in high school i said if they ever got back together i would go - they did, i didn't ($100 tix)
                          Hendrix
                          Cream
                          Joe Cocker
                          Zeppelin
                          Violent Femmes
                          Nirvana
                          the Doors

Meule - I like Pantera but
I saw Pantera at ozzfest in 97. they weren't very good - here's the line up:
                            1997
Ozzy < played like a saturday night live spoof of ozzy's former self
                            Black Sabbath <good
Marilyn Manson < I'm not a fan but this was a GREAT show
                            Pantera < snooze
                            Type O Negative

                            Machine Head
                            Powerman 5000
                            Coal Chamber
                            Slo Burn
                            Drain sth
                            downset.
                            Neurosis
                            Vision of Disorder

i saw Phil Anselmo with some second stage band at Ozzfest a few years later - it was awful. One of the worst I have ever seen. Phil said his own name often during every "song" "Let's here it for Phil!" what an ego.

Also -One of my friend's was at the show here in Columbus, OH when Dimebag got shot.
