I saw this list as going mostly toward rock and roll, but you brought up Jazz....and it is MORE than worthy of inclusion.

Where to start with that list. Davis (as mentioned), Mingus, Monk, Parker, Coltrane, Peterson, Getz, Sun Ra..........holey cow!!! What Jazz and it's artists gave birth to....

Oh, where to begin? Well, I'll start with

    1) Any or all of the Rat Pack (same as Riffster): We're talking Frank, Dean and Sammy, folks!
    2) Miles Davis: gots to get some cool jazz up in this place, folks. Some live *****es Brew or Kind of Blue to get our grooves on.
    3) Lush: need a reunion of the best of the British shoegazers. Anything to hear Miki Berenyi's angelic voice again!
    4) Roy Orbison: that voice! That wonderful voice! And the guitar work ain't too shabby either.
    5) The Beatles: goes without saying - as I was a toddler when they broke up, I was denied seeing them perform live, so that has to be a must on my list.

Other long missed bands (no particular order, heavy on the alternative, though): Caterwaul, Sebadoh, Eve's Plum (Colleen Fitzpatrick before her Vitamin C days!), and Dimebag, whether he's with Damageplan or Pantera it doesn't matter. Gone too soon.

Rock-A-Billy is awesome! Link Wray!!! Oh, yeah!!!! That Dude bridged any number of styles and can rightly be given credit for making a few others possible (punk, heavy metal). Total innovator.

You have to be familiar with Burton, then.

I saw DJ Fontana the same night I saw Burton (along with the Jordanaires, The Sweet Inspirations, The Imperials, The Stamps, AND Boots Randolph). It was at a Concert in Memphis during Elvis Week in Memphis 2002. (Scotty Moore was there, but I can't remember if he performed.)

Your list is about as close to what I would type up as one could get.

I love Eddie Cochran, and about anything Rock-a-billy, but I could throw any number of folks into that fifth spot (which, based on your list, is about the only spot I would contemplate changing.).

I might have put Ricky Nelson there or Sam Cooke or CCR or any number of performers I can't decide on who are worthy of inclusion.

You nailed my top 4, though.

One dude I have seen that is a common thread is James Burton. That Dude has been on tour and recorded with everyone and I am a huge fan, though he is hardly recognized by the general public. He is an old man and still kicks arse. THE quintessential rock-a-billy guitarist and an active link to about everything musical I want to hang on to.

Hoodu Guru's. . . . .one of my all time favourite bands.

Crowded House (the drummer killed himself a couple of years back)

    Beatles

    Lennon (as a solo artist)

    And Queen!

    Roy Rogers

    Original Sons of the Pioneers

    Gene Autry

Ian Tyson (He's still alive, but his vocal cords gave out a couple years ago. Still performs...but it's not the same)

Josephine Sarah Marcus--Yep, the same Josephine Wyatt Earp fell for. I would like to see her sing or perform something, if for no other reason than to see what all the fuss was about! (and it would be beyond cool to sit in the Bird Cage Theatre back in 1880!)

Triumph played together last year. I believe they're going to tour but don't quote me on that.

    For me:

    The Beatles
    Randy Rhoads
    Cliff Burton

I got to see Dimebag finally but it was with Damageplan and although I enjoyed it, Pantera would have been so much cooler.
