I'd hardly call that masculine, but I don't see the need to dress her as Peter Pan. She's a fairy and the way she was originally drawn is how I see fairies

        Hmmmm....

The first thing I noticed is that this "Debbie Schlussel" person is a moron. Yes, that's right; new Tink is a secret plot to take over the country. (Seriously; how many of these clowns are there out there trying to stir the pot for the sake of stirring the pot?) Secondly, if that outfit counts as "butch," we have vastly differing opinions of masculinity.

The new outfit seems like an attempt to bring her in line with a lot of current sword and sorcery video game characters. And my opinion is a resounding "meh." Did it need to be changed? No. Is it gonna be permanent? Sort of. They're trying to market Tinkerbell as a Barbie-esque character so no doubt there's gonna be a variety of outfits over the next little while. Heck, they changed her a lot YEARS ago when they made her a more likable character for the movies. In the original film she was kind of a ******.

Next thing will be Debbie Schlussel complaining about Barbie's latest make over.

I'm sure there are plenty of women today who resent the way Tinkerbell represents women in the same way they resent the June Cleaver look, vacuuming in a white below the knees dress while wearing her pearls and waiting for her husband to come home from work so she can take care of him. I wouldn't be surprised if a big part of the overhaul was related to that. A giggling, miniskirt, pompom shoes wearing girly girl, doesn't play as well with today's audience as it once did.

I'm as inclined to classic looks as anybody, and definately conservative in my views of gender roles... but I don't really see anything outlandish about this movie look.

Everything that's been around awhile gets updated and re-imagined from generation to generation. Everything from superheroes to classic monsters to cartoon characters.

                      No big deal...

I'm glad somebody said it. I got more than a whiff of christian conservatism from this review. Of course a new hat is the next step towards a full burka, and those new boots might as well be military issued combat boots.

The technical term for that sort of thing is "spurious logic." You see lots of it online.

                            *sigh*

                            >She looks like a baby

The original did too though. I forget the name of the guy who designed her.... he did a LOT of stuff for Disney back then.... but he was a HUGE influence on Tezuka. (Which is one reason why Japanese cartoon females have huge eyes today. Snow White has similar facial proportions too.)
