    Any Teacher Disciplining?

Speaking of disciplining did anyone have a teacher who was a harsh disciplinarian.

I had a 3rd grade teacher who by far was the worst....I still remember it vividly.

If you were caught with gum in your mouth, she made you wear it on your nose for the rest of the school day.

Caught shooting a spit ball. She would hand you a quart mason jar and make you sit at recess and fill the jar with spit....recess was indefinitely suspended until you filled the jar.

She also used the old writing repititive lines on the chalkboard 1,000 times.

The worst of all was the dunce cap...not kidding. She had a stool in the front of class and if you did something that bent her the wrong way, you sat on a hard stool (with no back support) in the front of class and wear one of those cone shaped Dunce caps on your head for the rest of the day.

My grade school teachers were all fantastic

Darn near 90% of them were all under 30 at the time and were the nicest ladies EVER.

I had a few man teachers -- they were cool too.

I think it's because my school was newly built (at the time) and the township stocked it with fresh out of college students.

I had a nun that used to love to whack our palms with the flat of a ruler. If you were too much for her to handle, then you got to kneel on rice grains at the principal's office for an hour or two.

If you were late or did something inapropriate .. you had to hang from the Door,.. for X-Amount of Time..., If you had something you done that Was Detention Worthy,.. You could Choose Detention/Explusion/Explusion from School...., or the Magical "Swat" ... Many, Many Boys chose the "Swat" & Wished they Had not Either.

I went to a Religious middleschool,a nd it was still ok to "paddle" kids for discipline. I don't know anybody that ever was, but you could see the thing hanging on the wall.

I did get poked in the chest with my teachers pointy finger for being a smart-arse. That really ticked me off, and I swore that no-one would ever do that again and get away with it. And no one ever did.

Corporal punishment was a very real possibility when and where I went to school, but the necessity of it being enforced was so absolutely rare that I can't remember any specifics. It happened, but I just don't remember any specifics. I just knew, "you don't want it to come to that!" and as a result, it rarely did....for anyone. As a result, school was never anything to fear for me.

I will say that I lived in a time and community where Parents were very involved and kids just didn't try too much outside of the home because Mom and Dad would reasonably back up Teachers and Teachers didn't fear disciplining kids because they were on the same team as Parents.

It was a unique and beneficial mix that may be totally lost to civilization for the time being.

I had 2 that come to mind

my first grade teacher Ms. Fuentes (some huge lard ***) she caught me cheating and then told me to pull out my hands and hit with a ruler stick numerous times, when my mom saw my hands she almost killed the woman, she locked herself in the bathroom and didn't want to come out, needless to say she was nice to me from then on

and my 4th grade teacher Ms.Khan (KHAAAAANNNN!!!!) man what a *****, she was and looked just like the old lady from The Goonies, she use to yell at me and always call me the big bambino

Being forced to get down into the "push-up" position was the normal for my elementary and high school. My cousin told me that one of his elementary school teachers would make 'bad' kids put the "binky" in their mouth, which was a pacifier. When punishment was over, it was tossed into her desk to be used for the next troublemaker. That seems a bit too gross for me. I don't remember any other punishments being used, but then I was the good kid for the most part. My big problem was talking in class. I used to talk and talk, and many report cards had notes to my parents that indicated that I needed to be quiet. It never made a difference. I still like to talk. I can sit and talk with friends for hours upon hours. If I ever get to Mego Meet, I'll probably love hanging out and talking until the wee hours, provided anyone else wants to talk.

I was lucky enough to go to school in New Jersey --- New Jersey was the first U.S. state to abolish school corporal punishment in 1867

I went to Catholic gradeschool and the nuns made the students fear them. I don't remember all out beatings by them, but I do remember the size of the paddle haning in the principals office.

If you were caught chewing gum, my 5th grade teacher used to make you hold it in your hand. If it was hot, the combination of the spit from the gum and the sweat from your hand made this really gross. It never happened to me, but I witnessed this w/ my friends.

I remember having to put our heads down on a desk if we were bad. This one teacher was a vicious and mean woman that would come by and literally whack us in the head with a pen if our eyes were peaking over our shoulders and our heads were not down all the way. I remember having a goose egg on my head from being hit really hard by her. This was back then.
These days, a teacher like that would be arrested for abuse. It is unbelievable how much times have changed the way teachers and parents can address children.
I am for punishment but some of the things I read and saw here would not pass today. Kids should be taught discipline but not through violence.

Wow! where did some of you go to school? Russia. I'm a pretty big supporter of the fact that kids today get away with too much, and that teachers today are pretty much hands tied to do anything, (police too by the way which is one reason kids don't respect them today), but if a teacher in school ever laid a hand on me they would still be in a coma. And my Mom was a teacher for over 35 years. I know the catholic schools were different even when I was in school, but I can't believe there were so many that experienced getting hit with stuff. I would never have graduated from high school under those conditions. I don't think I could have watched it happen to someone else much less to me directly.
