Anyone watch the show Pawn Stars?

It's on the History Channel Sunday nights 9-10 pm (one is usually a new episode and the other is a repeat).

It's basically a show about a famous pawn shop in Las Vegas where individuals bring in all kinds of unique items (the shop owner usually knows at least something about most everything but will bring in expert friends of his for items that are worth a lot of money).

It is a bit like Antiques Roadshow but much more interesting and educational.

This pawn shop will buy anything of value if the price is right and they know they can make money on it. I saw them purchase a cannon from the late 1800's that was still functional (they paid $30,000) for it and they have purchased all kinds of interesting stuff.

It is also really interesting to see the negotiation take place between the owner and the person selling the item. He must do millions of dollars of business each year based on the items just on the show and it is quite amazing that people constantly bring in items that look like they belong in a museum.

I think the box of comics had some older X-Men and Batman comics ('70's) plus some early TMNT comics. I think he paid about $.50 a comic. Believe me, that owner is no dummy so he saw something in there that he liked.

In the opening they show the superbowl ring from the Pat's first win. I wonder who pawned that ring.

            It's a fun little show.

Definitely more interesting on the surface than Antiques Road Show, but ARS has some jaw-dropping moments that I haven't seen on this show.....as of yet.

Yeah, and I seem to remember Rick, although he pleaded dumb to comics, pointing out that comics, like sports cards, saw a period of over-inflation in the 90's.

                    I watch it...pretty good.

I like the way they really low ball some people.

Like this guy was selling an old classic hot rod...he wanted something like $27 grand...and the pawn shop guy say, "How about seven thousand?"

                    Something like that.

I've seen a few times when the store, at no expense to the seller, will bring in an expert who will value an item at say $4000. The potential seller will then say, "Well, I want $4000.". (It's a pawn shop...they want to make money so you ain't getting that from them if that's the true value because they need to make their money.)

It's fun to see the interesting stuff brought in, and you wonder how many people are doing it so they don't get their kneecaps broken..

The main guy is good, but he's also kind of annoying to me with how much he cracks himself up with his (non) witty retorts to people's asking prices..

The dull-witted morbidly obese sons are pretty useless.

Not regularly but I've liked the ones I've seen. I watch it if I happen upon it scanning channels.
