lol, How did it do me harm? If I acted up my *** got the belt. If I got caught skipping school the dean paddled my *** without my parents consent. These where the good old days!

    Time out my ***!

These tools have been taken away from parents for the most part, and it's exactly why we are producing a generation of soft idiots.

Actually, I think they more likely say they were "spanked" and it did no harm. There is a distinction between a spanking and a beating.

I got a very few spankings as a kid and I can't really remember any specifics about any of them. I think they were effective enough to teach me, "hey, I better be somewhat reasonable about how I act or.....".

As a result, I never got into any kind of trouble at school and I have no criminal record because I was taught that actions lead to consequences for said actions, so how bout'cha don't do that.

I know they did me no harm and I suspect they spared me from a great deal of it.

So, while I don't advocate "beating" a kid, I think a well-placed spanking of an unreasonable child helps to make them into reasonable beings who don't need to be spanked.

Hmmm...it really depended on the offense. Usually I was lead away by my ear, to my room for a "time out". I was grounded, spanked once or twice with a switch from the tree out back (always on the butt.) I got spanked open hand, on the arse with regularity, but I don't remember it being out of anger. Later I would get grounded or have things temporairly taken away from me. Oh I forgot about the wooden spoon across the knuckles, and I got my mouth washed out with soap a couple times.

No permanent scars, and it was usually well deserved. Kids today get away with murder, and nobody does anything because they're terrified someone will get it on video or something and be all over the news. Or that someone will cry abuse, it's really sad.

My dad used to belt me about four to five times in the rear...but I had to be really BAD for that to happen...

My mom used to scream and throw things at me...like her shoe or something...I was more terrified of her than my dad...

              Hmmmm....

I don't think I was ever really disciplined. My folks were big on explaining why things were, and that was good enough. Luckily for me they actually HAD reasons. Only problem came years later, when I got out in the world and found out "'cos I SAID so" is what most folks consider a good reason.

By a switch from a tree I had to go get. If I got one too small I'd have to go get another one and that made it worse. I was only switched 2 times in my childhood and those 2 times left a lasting impression on the rest of my life. It was always done by my Mom.

Yeah. . . . .my mum used a thing she called the switch. . . . It was an orange peice of electrical cording, that was open at one end, and the other coloured internal wires, were hanging out. . . . . .she used to hit me and my siblings with it. . .until one day she missed me and hit herself with it. . . . only realizing then how much and badly it hurt. . . . and never used the thing again. . . . . . it was like a cat and nine tails!!!

my mom was a samurai with a wooden spoon

My dad was a talker. guilting you with the slow rockiing and even monotone in the speech. he only hit me once ...when I was 15 or 16 I was bigger than him and a linebacker on the football team. I dropped the F bomb in front of my mom and he said "apologize". The begining I'll never forget, my dumb a** said "why don't you make me?" I don't actually remember him hitting me or throwing me into the wall I just remember waking up on the floor with a roughly human shaped divit in the dry wall.

My mom was able to slap a cheek or spank depending on the severity of the offence,My dad had no problems using his belt.I was the oldest so I was I guess the experiment..LOL
My brother and sisters received the ultimate punishment of grounding and no TV or Phone!?!?!?!?
                        Seriously what the F...
I was the only one to get the belt or spanks...You are welcome guys.
Funny thing is none of us turned out to be criminals...Unless you count my assault charges but I can explain those...
I don't like people putting their hands on me...

I was a victim of the belt when I was younger. I also got grounded alot. Then I got older and no one was laying a hand on me.

The most common thing was I'd have something taken away from,,literally. Like If I got a bad report card my Mom would take my Atari away and I wouldn't see it again until my grades improved.
My father would also scold me and when he got mad I knew I was in trouble!
He never hit me (nor would he, it was the idea) but him getting mad would immediately put me in line. As I got older groudning was the punsihment of choice.
The taking stuff away was very effective but with all the gadgets out there today I don't knwo if it would be feasible.

My mom yelled a lot...only hit once in a while. My father on the other hand was big with the belt and hands.I knew how to make a big deal of it so I'd only get a few whacks . As I got older my mom could get through to me by talking loud but my father got worse with his actions until one day I had enough and he got a beating from me.That was the last time he ever hit me....sad to say but he was abusive and it needed to be done .Today we have an OK relationship but it took a long time.
I have never hit my son....It only takes me yelling and he gets the message
