    ABC fall line-up for 1978

I was searching through for some other things on youtube and found this: It's great that someone kept this on tape. There are a few other fall preview years, too. I think I watched every one of these shows except for the one near the end with Jack Guilford as the grumpy grandpa

Yeah, did they even mention the name of that one?

I remember a lot of these shows, though I never watched Starsky & Hutch (until reruns), Vegas, (though I have seen Hawk in reruns), Operation Petticoat, and that one w/ the grandpa. And of course I have all of the Hardy Boys eps!

BTW...I have an old commercial w/ that last "We're The One" bit.

Yeah, I don't remember that one though Jack Gilford, Dabney Coleman, and Rue McClanahan are easily recognizable. I had to look that one up, but the rest of the shows are mostly legendary within pop culture.

That show was called "Apple Pie" and was created by Norman Lear. It only made it to seven episodes.

I never saw that Apple Pie show either.
Man, a LOT of great shows and I watched almost all of them.
Watching that made me wish it was still the 70's.
I was GLUED to the tv for Battlestar Galactica.
Oh and how cheesy was that song at the end with all the stars?
Bet ya couldn't get stars to do that stuff today?
Sharry, I think you are thinking of Robert Urich's later show, Spenser For Hire when you mentioned Hawk. Hawk was a spinoff of that show, not Vegas.

Remember they also used to have the specials on a Friday night of the Saturday Morning line-ups. I couldn't find anything from the 70's that was as long a clip as this from '84

Whoops! You're right. I never watched either one!

I remember Apple Pie somewhat. It was about a hairdresser who put ads in the paper for various family members during the Depression, I believe in an effort to keep her house or recieve extra government benefits or some similar convoluted reason. Here's a little bit of the show I found on youtube, it includes some of the opening/closing credits. Note it was directed by Peter Bonerz, the actor who played the dentist on the Bob Newhart Show (1st-psychiatrist version).

I'm surprised that show came from Norman Lear....usually his stuff was "hit", not "miss"....Apple Pie definitely seems to be a "miss".

Lear had a number of misses as well, things like "Hot L Baltimore", the All In The Family spinoff "Gloria", the "Sanford Arms" spinoff, "a.k.a. Pablo" with Paul Rodriguez, and "A Year at the Top" with Paul Shaffer & Greg Evigan. More good in the run than bad for sure though.

Lear was just a consultant by that point....not exec producer as he had been on Sanford and Son....

Being a big Sanford and Son fan back in the day, I have to say the Sanford Arms spinoff was horrible (can it really be called a spinoff when it was deisgned to fill a gap in NBC's line-up left by the departure of the original show? Anyway....)

Maybe if they had told the story of Phil Wheeler and his kids instead of trying to incorporate all of the supporting players from Sanford & Son, like Aunt Esther and Bubba....But it ended up feeling like an alternate universe version....

Which in fact it turned out to be...because Redd Foxx eventually returned to NBC in the also short-lived Sanford and nothing was ever acknowledged that I'm aware of about Phil Wheeler and the other show....I think they were run once, cancelled and never seen again. Probably locked in a studio vault somewhere....Where's the DVD?

The We're the One song at the end is embarrassingly trashie

I can't imagine any network today doing that or any actor agreeing to it it.

It's stuff like that makes makes me not miss the late 70's
