Anyone else get a FEMA letter?

I guess if you filed a claim from the mid 80's to 2004, FEMA has been court ordered to release addresses of claimee's to the press. I applied for FEMA aid in 2004 and was denied due to being "over insured". We still shelled out thousands of dollars for stuff that wasn't covered by insurance. Down here there are lots of stories about people nowhere near the path of any of the hurricanes that filed claims and were paid out. Hopefully that is what the press is investigating.

Just wondering if FEMA really has the right to disclose that information, especially since I was told of a confidentiality clause when I was applying over the phone.

No I didn't and I wouldn't as I didn't apply for it. I think it's odd they gave out the info. to the press? If legal of not, I don't know. I'd ask a lawyer. I guess if a court ordered it they might not have a choice but you might have been able to fight for your's not being released maybe?

Good Luck hope it all works out for you.

^^^ pretty sure that is the case, since there were lots of reports in FLA about misshandling of funds.

We could have used that during Andrew in early 90's... but we had relatives that weren't affected and we bummed on their couch.

Court ordered to release info, huh? In healthcare, dealing with confidential data... and one of the things every patient signs form, which states no information will be released without their knowledge and/or approval. Pretty much, permission is usually asked, unless it's mandated by court... then they just notify you. That's in the paperwork signed. Maybe it's the same deal in this case... and if that's IS the case, their notification that it will be released is enough, legally.
