Is it possible to drive from Canada to south Chili

Somebody asked me if it's possible to drive a car from Canada to Southern Chili and I stood there with my jaw hanging open saying --- I dunno -----

So, is it possible ?

I would imagine so. I'm sure there are some dirt roads you'd have to use to get there.

Yeah, there are a couple bridges that go over the canal. I guess that theoretically such a drive would be possible, there might be some pretty precarious parts though. I wonder if anyone has ever attempted it?

You CAN do it, but I wouldn't want to. Past the canal in Panama I don't believe there's anything, and then it gets worse, Colombia. I've heard that Ecuador isn't too bad right now, I'd go, but that's me. Peru and Bolivia look beautiful, I'm planning a trip to Peru for next year.
The northern part of the trip through Central America should be fairly easy, the highway is modern and heavily traveled.

Check out the episode of "Locked Up Abroad" where the motorcyclist from California spends a few months captive in Colombia; that is not a risk I'm willing to take.

20 years ago, some friends of mine tried this (well, not from Canada but from California). They got all the way thru Mexico and into Central America but then totaled their car and had to bail. They just left the car and flew back.

Colombia is much different now...now that all the top major drug cartels are run by Mexicans in Mexico...the crime has really dropped in Colombia.

You should be more worried about Mexico than Colombia right now.

Never been on the western side of Mexico, just the Yucatan. Chiapas one of these days once flight prices come back down.
I have a friend from Colombia who strongly suggested against visiting, but I haven't asked him about travel recently.

Well...I meant to say the border towns are really dangerous in Mexico right now...the lifeline of drug trafficking is there.

But other places in Mexico is just fine.

One of my uncles lives in the state of Chiapas...it's beautiful down there.

possible yeah, but i wouldn't wanna put that many miles on my car.

With my luck, my car would break down in the middle of the rain forest somewhere. I'd be worried about that more than anything else. Such a trip would be quite an adventure though. I'm 41 with a wife and kids though, so I'm afraid that my days of crazy road trips are behind me.
