The Swine Flu!! Anybody close to you?

My good friend from California just messaged me that she and her 2 kids have the Swine Flu!! Crazy huh? She said they are battling 104-105 fevers , body aches and nasty stomach pains! One of her kids is only 1. They went to 3 different doctors , all said there in no medicine worth taking, ride it out with plenty of fluids.

I thought Tami-Flu worked, they told her the side effects are too risky and the Swine Flu Vaccine has only been tested on 4500 people and many are now showing some sort of brain disease!! Even crazier!!

But she said 2 out of 3 of those doctors said they were informed last week that by Jan-Feb 2010 some states will make the Swine Flu vaccine mandatory! She asked , what if you say no, Doctors said- you will be fined heavily, daily!!!

So i ask you guys- do you know anybody who had or has the Swine? And would you take the vaccine?

    Stay healthy!!!

My wife is a nurse at the biggest children's hospital in Miami, she says she's seen a bunch of cases. They do have a vaccine ready if there's a breakout for the Nurses and staff, she says she's heard nothing about any brain disease

My son had the swine flu a few weeks back. He was given the Tami Flu medicine that most health care insurances wont cover because its so new. It worked great for him. He was sick for about three days with body aches, vomiting and fever for a night but once he got on the Tami Flu medicine it was gone almost instantly. He had a cough for about three days after but he was fine and no one else in the house hold got it. The media puts a lot of hipe out and the swine flu thats going around now is a slight heavier dose of your common flu. Doctors told us that it usually hits the people that have health problems like ashma and other problems. Most people that have been around it have gotten it in some way or another and peoples immune systems deal with it differantly. I did alot of searching on the net when my son got it and it put my mind at ease. The reason it hit so hard in mexico is because most people dont have health care there and were not treating it when they would get sick. Also read that if you did get it or were around it that you were not going to get the vaccine when it was available. My son has asthma so he was a good candidate to get it and am glad that he is now over it and doing well. Again this is just what I read on it and what we encountered when my son got it. It could be differant for others and our town is around population 5,000. At the time when my son got it the doctors office that was treating my son had 15 other cases that they were treating.

Glad he's ok! But very interesting about the Tami-Flu! My friend is 36 and healthy, her kids are like 1-5 in age. They are a very wealthy family and went to 3 top San Diego and 1 Los Angeles doc, all said the same about the vaccine and issues with the brain, i forget the exact name she said. Some brain disease though. But also all 3 docs from San Diego to LA said no way with the Tami-flu. Now i'm confused because they cant shake the 104 fever!!

Possible bad side effects and people creating a resistance to taking it. Basically, because it never sits well when you see that you will be forced by the government (of the people, by the people, and for the people) to do something or else. I don't want to see anyone I know and love die from this but on the flip side, I wouldn't want to see my child develop autism because of some idiotic thing big brother forced me to do. The government needs to inform and persuade in cases like this that could save someone's life. Not force. When the government starts doing that, I and lots of people become uneasy. (i.e. Do I work for you or do you work for me?)

Note that I do understand laws are created to do that. And laws are created to protect someone else from your actions. Understood, because you get the nasty virus, you run the risk if infecting others who might die from it's effects. But I can also see on the flip why this would not sit well with people. I hope they iron out those nasty side effects soon.

Don't take the shot...take Vitamin D, it's your best defense against the Flu!

The Brain disorder is called: Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine.

I've had it, took me 3 weeks to get over it and Tami-Flu didn't appear to help.
As I'm type 1 diabetic my doctor still advises me to have the jab together with a regular flu jab in the Autumn.

Tami-flu is supposed to be effective, if taken in the first 24 to 48 hours of Symptoms. If you have the flu for 3 days then go to the doctor. . . . .you have missed your window of opportunity.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to who will get it and who won’t. . . .who will live and who will die.

MAKE NO MISTAKE. . . .healthy people die from this with no complications or predisposing illnesses. Of the deaths here, 40% are in fit and healthy people with no other illness. In fact last weekend, a guy I worked with (who is also a nurse), Lost his sister. She was 35 fit, two kids, no illnesses. . . . .and dead now. She went to the doctor 2 or 3 times and he kept sending her home. Another guy here. . . .had the flu, felt bad. . . .drove himself to the hospital. . . . .and they called his wife and said "GET HERE NOW". He was 42 and dead within 3 hours of driving himself to the hospital.

My daughter sits next to a girl at school who had it. . .they are 7 so hygiene isn’t high on the agenda with these kids. My daughter didn’t get it. My wife (a paediatric nurse), got exposed at work, and was given Tami-flu, she was fine and didn’t get sick. I looked after a patient with it, and a few of my colleagues had it. . . . .I had a sore throat for ten days. . . . .meaning my immune system was pumping to stop me getting sick, but other than a day or two of sneezing, I was fine.

Apparently in those it kills, the lungs turn into a concrete like consistency. Folks here are on heart and lung bypass machines. I didn’t even know that they had these new lung bypass Oxygen membrane exchange units (Or something like that), but folks are still dying even on these, as it spreads to other organs. Who will get a mild flu, and who will die. . . .is anyone’s guess. MY family takes vitamin C everyday. . . . .and we have all gone OK despite all having close exposure. Wives tale maybe. . . .but I keep taking it!

                          On the Vaccine:
I watched that Video about the GBS (Guillain-Barre Syndrome), and I wouldn't place too much stock in it.. . .why:
                          1) the guy they are talking to in NOT a doctor or medical person. . .. he is an Investigative Journalist. . . .without a scary story. . . .he doesn’t get his face on the TV.
                          2) They did talk to any current researchers and no current researchers advised against the vaccine (or their families). He said Researchers who developed the small pox vaccine. And that was a life time ago. . . . .what would they know about current vaccines. . . .very little and nothing about this specific vaccine. All smoke and mirrors.
                          3) When asked directly about what side effects have the children had. . . .DID NOT ANSWER the question. AND LISTEN. . . .no one has developed GBS on it. Not one side effect from the studies was mentioned. . . .because there is no story in the truth.
                          4) They keep talking about a similar vaccine from 1975 that caused GBS, or it having a component that may cause it. . . . .but then there are many vaccines where it is listed as a risk/potential side effect. . . . .but you never see it.
                          5) Being dead from Swine flu is worse than getting GBS. I nursed a guy with it about 19 years ago. . . .he lost all sensation and movement. . . .from his toes to the top of his head. . . . .it took a few weeks. . . . and each day the loss crept up his body. . . .I remember the day his lips stopped working as he couldn’t drink with a straw anymore. Then later he ended up on a ventilator as he could no longer breath on his own. A few weeks later he was back on my ward, fine as fine could be. . . all movement and sensation back. Not everyone is that lucky with GBS, but it is better than being dead because you didn’t have vaccine I think anyway.
That said, My 7 year old was offered a place in a safety study for it here. But this is an Australian developed Vaccine, that the World Health Organisation are quite favourable towards (they are not so convinced with a UK developed one back in August). We said no, as we didn’t want her to have the 7 follow up blood tests, used like a pin cushion.
BUT ME, I intend to get it as soon as it is available in a few weeks.

LOL. . . . .I wouldn't be too worried about mercury. . . . .if you are you are living on the wrong planet. . . . mercury is in a lot of foods you eat. . . . .it is part of our world. . . .Journalists just use it to scare people half the time.

The regular Flu vaccine has had Paraplegia listed as a potential side effect. . . . .and yet out of millions of shots given. . . I have never heard of a single case.
