Does Ozzy's cover of Paranoid count? Just think the one he did with Randy Rhoads is better than his Black Sabbath version.

I think Ace buried ELO on that tune...Amazing isn't it?

There are a lot of great covers out there....

Joan Osborne has a whole CD with covers of classic 60's and 70's soul/R&B and pop tunes called "How Sweet It Is"
Amazon.com: How Sweet It Is: Joan Osborne: Music

Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs put out a covers CD that's also GREAT:
Amazon.com: Under The Covers, Vol. 1: Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs, Matthew Sweet, Susanna Hoffs: Music

Speaking of Susanna Hoffs...Bangles cover of Simon and Garfunkels "Hazy Shade of Winter" is kick *****

Best New Artist Grammy winner Adele does an AMAZING cover of Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love"

Al Green does a fantastic cover of the Bee Gees "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart"

Paul McCartney has 2 cover CD's..."Run Devil Run"

Amazon.com: Run Devil Run: Paul McCartney: Music

Choba B CCCP (Back in the USSR)

Amazon.com: Choba B CCCP (Back in the USSR): Paul McCartney: Music

Also does a great cover of "All Things Must Pass" Live.

BTW, someone mentioned "Knockin' on Heavens Door"...2 versions to look for are Triumphs version and The Alarms version.

Gomez' cover of The Beatles "Getting Better" is great.

U2 did a cover of the Beatles "Rain" but I've only heard it on bootlegs from the Unforgetable Fire Tour.

The most interesting cover I've heard was Midge Ure's cover of Jethro Tulls "Living In The Past" on Midge's 1st solo LP called "The Gift"

Government Mule's cover of the Beatles "She Said"

There's just so many great covers out there...

If you're in any way a Smiths fan you need to dig up a copy of "The World Still Won't Listen." A bunch of grunty hardcore bands covering Morissey, very funny and surprisingly good. H20, Slapshot, Leeway, The Meatmen, Subzero and a ton of other bands really put some effort into their interpretations.

White Zombie covering Kiss, God Of Thunder...

Steve Earle with The Supersuckers covering The Rolling Stones Before They Make Me Run
YouTube - Steve Earle - Before They Make Me Run (1994)

The Supersuckers covering Ice Cube's Dead Homiez
YouTube - Dead Homiez - Supersuckers, The (Ice Cube Cover)

The Meatmen covering The Smiths How Soon Is Now from the album I mentioned above

Hey Bill, for 80's indie try:

The Feelies "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey"

Dinosaur Jr "Show Me The Way"

Yo La Tengo "Big Sky"--the kinks song

    Urge Overkill "Wichita Lineman"

    Rapeman "Just Got Paid"

Killdozer "I Am I Said" they actually did a whole record of covers

The Minutemen "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" their version rules.

You mentioned Redd Kross--i have a great version of them doing "Rhiannon"

I'm sure others'll come to mind....

For me, no doubt Manfred Mann's Earth Bands version of Springsteen's Blinded by the light.

Best cover and interpetation ever. To this day Springsteen is bitter that they crushed his song.
