    "Waste of Time" Tourist Traps

What effing idiot wrote this story. The Alamo, Plymouth Rock, Petrified Forest are waste of time, tourist traps?

First of all, they are no tourist traps, they are historical sites or natural formations, keep as they were for the history, not for someone to buy a pennant and a coonskin hat and say they were there. He might as well had just called the Grand Canyon a "hole in the ground".

The Alamo is one of my favorite places to visit. I guess what makes it special is I know a LOT about it. I can show you where Crockett, Travis, and bowie died in the Alamo. I know the Travis letter by heart. When we go on a field trip there I show the kids where the fiercest fighting (the long barracks) took place. I know Santa Anna's famous quote about sacrificing his men in an assault on the Alamo as like killing chickens. I could go on and on.......

Bourbon Street? I lived there for a few years and avoided it most of the time, but even I wouldn't say it's a trap.

There is so much history to visit just in the French Quarter, you could spend a week and not see it all (and this is exciting, interesting history).

Plymouth Rock is not a tourist trap, it is stupid. It's a big rock very boring. If your comming to MA go to Boston lots of fun stuff to see, just watch out crossing the street. If you cross when the light says "don't walk" your fair game.

It IS a little stupid as it's just a large rock placed inside a four sided walled hole in the gound. They don't even know for sure if it is the actual rock that was first set foot on. But the Plymouth Wax Musuem was always fun and the Mayflower was interesting (although again, it's not the original Mayflower) which are all in the same general vacinity of the "rock".

I like Fisherman's Warf in San Francisco...however...everything in there is as expensive as hell...but then again...so is the rest of Frisco...hardly a waste of time though...not even the Tenderloin...lol...you'll have fun there.

I don't consider places of American history (like the Alamo and Plymouth Rock) tourist traps.

They may be boring, but they are what they are... Just as much as a Revolutionary or Civil war battlefield.

At least he gave a positive word for the tourist area near me, Niagara Falls.

Out of that list, I've only been to Hollywood. I don't care what he says, as a big movie fan, I found it a very interesting place to visit.

Funny you mention Niagara Falls. Growing up in Buffalo I have been there several times but it's kind of one of those things that if you've seen it once...well....
So to a point I can understand the writer's comments but I think most of them are a "I'd like to see it once" type attraction. Snarky commentary aside, most of those places I would like to see someday...once.
Not that I wouldn't go to NF again. It's a great sight but I've already seen it...several times...and it's not like it's really changed.
I do have to get my butt a few hours away and actually see that "hole in the ground" someday, though. I can't help but think of the scene from Vacation whenever I think of the Grand Canyon. Cracks me up every time.

I love the CANADIAN side of Niagara Falls.

                            The American falls blows chunks.

The Canadians have the Horseshoe falls (which is THE BEST) and also the fun stuff to do like the Skylon, the Museums etc.

I've been there at like 12 times in my lifetime.

Last time I went was a few years ago ...

Biggest problem I had was by the AMERICAN boarder patrol on the Rainbow bridge on the way home.
                            They suddenly turned into azzholes.
                            Treated me like garbage.
That was a fine how-do-you-do returning to my own beloved country.

Canadian boarder patrol were the opposite...
                            Nice as can be.

                              .
The Canadians do have the best view of the Falls but the American Falls are bigger. They certainly have a nice park system and everything over there, I'll give you that.

and also the fun stuff to do like the Skylon, the Museums etc.
                              Speaking of tourist traps...
Don't forget to add Clifton Hill to that list as well.
Wouldn't want to leave that tourist trap off the list.
