    Can't believe my luck...soccer news

I realize most people don't like soccer but this is very exciting for me.

The U.S. Men's National Team is playing Brazil that is pitted as battle of the champions (winner of Copa America vs. winner of Gold Cup) in Chicago next month.

I couldn't believe it when my wife said I could go without any griping...I live in Maryland so that means plane tickets, hotel, and tickets.

There was a presale yesterday to members of USSOCCER.com and low and behold I snagged two seats right on the field. I'm not talking front row stadium seats but chairs they are going to place right on the sidelines! I paid through the nose for them at face value $250 per ticket but could easily sell them for about $1,000 per ticket on EBAY if I wanted.

Both teams are bringing their 'A' squads and not the 2nd stringers that played in Copa America. Ronaldinho et al vs. Donovan et al. I think this is the 2nd time Brazil has ever played the U.S. on U.S. soil so it is one of those once in a lifetime events for soccer fans like me.

I am taking my 12 year old son and he is super excited as well. As much as I love American Football, this is about equivalent to me as getting Super Bowl tickets...woo hoo!

Although not a widely followed sport, this game is going to sell out quick. I think tickets go on sale to the public today or tomorrow.

That's a pretty sweet deal. I don't follow soccer (futbol) as much as I used to, but I can't help but get caught up in world cup fever when it hits.

I was lucky enough to be in Uruguay when their sub20 team took it all back in 97, and the riot that hit the stadium during their homecoming was wild.

Your kid is in for one fun ride!

Very cool. Scoring decent tickets for the 1994 World Cup opening round games at Giants Stadium was even better than the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. I've been to NFL and MLB Playoff games, and nothing compares to World Cup level soccer. It would probably take seeing the Giants in the Superbowl for something to beat that experience for me.I can't even imagine how cool it would be to see the Brazilians playing "The Beautiful Game" sitting that close to the action.

I saw Brazil vs USA live at Stanford Stadium in World Cup 1994...it was amazing, and Brazil barely won 1-0.

Congrats, you are going to get tons of Brazilian women dancing throughout the game, it's a sight to behold.

                        Hector,

Here is a picture I took from where I was sitting with a not so good digital camera to give you an idea of how close I was....something neither me nor my son will ever forget.

I mean the U.S. in general. Here is a picture from MLS cup a few weeks ago at RFK Stadium. I live driving distance from it and organized having the kids from our town's soccer program participate in the opening ceremonies. My daughter is at the far left next to the soldier looking back towards the camera and my son is the shag head just two down on the right from her. I'm standing right under the yellow baseball field post on the far field with the grey coat on and the tent to the left of me is the ESPN broadcast booth. Another one of those memories my kids will never forget and the tickets were only $35 a piece. I don't know of any other professional sport where you can get tickets in the lower bowl around the 40 yard line for a Championship game.

I have a few including a Freddy Adu game worn jersey (w/D.C. United), a David Beckham jersey (just last year with L.A. Galaxy) and also one with Real Madrid.

I also have an authentic MLS ball that I have taken to various games throughout the D.C. United season and have had various players autograph them such as Juan Paoblo Angel, Eddie Pope, Christian Gomez, Jaime Moreno, Chris Seitz, and a few others. I tried to get Beckham and Landon Donovan's autographs when they played D.C. United but they weren't signing autographs and I tried to get Jozy Altidore's autograph (I was standing 10 yards from him and he wouldn't even look up to acknowledge me even though I'm sure he heard me).

That is one other aspect of the game that I like. Players' willingness to interact with fans before and after games. My kids really enjoy meeting and interacting with the players at matches.
