    Furloughed at 50!

The hits keep coming with this economy.

I turn 50 next week and September starts our Furlough days at work. One forced day off without pay per month. In other words a loss of 5% of my income per month.

Still I have a job and health insurance. Just have to cut out the extras for now, Toys, Fun events and possibly food!
Too many toys. Not enough space!

Sorry. I've been there. Back in 2001 my whole department was cut in Boston and our jobs sent to India. For two years I made $20,000 a year less, and eight years later, I still don't make what I used to.

It's awful hearing how many people are having so much bad things going on.

Sorry to hear that man. Try not to dwell to the money - enjoy the extra day as much as possible - peace and mental health are better than money.

Man thats a bummer man ,sorry to hear that. But I guess you've heard that crap before.Lets see if we can make up that 5% If you started showering at work, you'll save water at home, sleep there 1 night a week to save gas, drink extra amounts of work coffee, and use all their toilet paper. Its not much but it adds up. But seriously though good luck in all that comes your way.

Out here in Las Vegas many local business's are making employee take 1 week off in 2009, not paid! Alot of the casino's have had massive layoffs, worse this month then ever! I would say the last 3 months have been the worst ever in LAs Vegas that i have seen, been here since 1996. We used to get free meals, free rooms at times, nice yearly bonus and much more! But that was 2008 and earlier! Welcome to 2009 and wow did Vegas Crash hard! Especially in the last 3 months! Scary!

                Good luck everybody!

I agree! Take a Monday or Friday to extend your weekend and turn this negative into a positive!

Unfortunately we don't have showers at work or office coffee!

They did schedule our days off on the least impact to our customers and on a friday or monday or day before a holiday. Its just the beginning tho. We have already slashed the budget below 2005 levels but now are cutting into employees. Hopefully things will pick up before long!
