My Favorite Topic - Treasure Hunting Finds!!!

OK, I think I start this thread every year or so, but I love the topic. After seeing Goat's GI Joe finds, I thought about this topic again.

What is your greatest garage sale, flea market, etc find?

    Of course most know mine:

35 near mint/mint Mego WGSH figures
10+ Mego NM/Mint vehicles (some in boxes include GA Car)
    SMDM Bigfoot MIB
6 SMDM figures (couple of them MIB including Maskatron)
Some other SMDM items (Lab, capsule, etc)

I paid $160 for entire lot (sweating about spending that much money, it was before I knew anything about Mego)

    Sold for about $7000

    What you got?

Back in '95, as a gift for visiting a toy factory in mainland China I was given 6 carded Star Wars figures. Apparently two were never seen before and the other 4 were fairly rare. Sold them all a couple years ago for $12K or so. Huge thanks to Russ G for helping me to ID them. What a gift!!!

I find very valuable things for pennies on the dollar every week. It's what I do for $$$. I found roughly $1500 worth of junk today.

But some of my recent highlights:

          2 1960's Takara Monster inflatables--wolfman and creature--paid $3 for the pair, sold for $1400.

Last year, within a month I found 2 different pair of 1950's Levi's--total invested in the pair $10, sold for $1500.

Rare Beatles Open End interview LP bought for $1 sold for $800.

Last week I found a pair of mid 60's Levi's for $8 and sold them in 48 hrs for $425.

Back in April I bought a wad of four 1950s Army camp t-shirts and one sweatshirt for $50-sold for $1300.

Found a Gretsch electric guitar for $7 and sold it for $400.

Found a turn of the century Bruno Parlour guitar back in may for $25 and sold it for $400.

I must say though, I've never hit a motherlode like you hit with that Mego find, 'tiger. That woulda made me faint.

My most interesting find was a small box full of business size cards, each with different train companies, dating from 1903 to 1931. There were two of each, one with a man's name and one with a woman's name (his wife). They were yearly train passes. He appearently was an inspector and got to ride for free.

I paid 50 cents, sold for $750 or so

99.9% of people wouldn't have looked twice at them, just thrown them away.

I was so excited about the SMDM stuff, I almost passes on the Mego stuff. I played with SMDM, not Mego as a kid in the 70's.

Of all the many great finds I have found, I have yet to break the $1000 mark on a single item sold. I have hit $800+ quite a few times, nothing more.

I have broken the $1000 mark many times, but that was from lots/collections i have bought.

The entire 1000+ model rocket collection I bought for $200, sold for $3400

Another great one was NM #1 Thunda comic book paid $5, sold for nearly $700

                    I still remember my first:

I paid $2 for a Backgammon game at a garage sale. It looked like any other set you see at every gaage sale, but this one had a Pierre Cardin logo on the outside and all the chips had the logo on them. Sold for $125

I paid $2 for a bag of four football programs. Two LSU vs ND 1971, a LSU vs Penn St Bowl Game 1972, and a 1972 Superbowl program Dallas vs Miami.

                    Sold for $30, $30, $60, & $300

Those are fantastic lunchbox finds, Mike.

I found two just today--a Charlies Angels for $8 and a Muppet Babies for 50 cents. I almost passed on the Muppet Babies but it was deadstock/unused....

Lots of small things for good deals, but nothing really high in value.

he had some figures that were on Australian cardbacks (much harder to find than US cardbacks)

and the cream of the crop were a stormtrooper Luke skywalker on a Power of the Force cardback of original luke ...

and a Luke X-Wing Pilot on a power of the force original Luke power of the force cardback.

sound like common miss cards and that's what greg thought they were at first.

but the Kenner line was killed before all figures could be released on Power of the Force cardbacks ... the Original Luke is one of the figures that never were released on that cardback style. So just that basic backer card /proof card of original Luke Power of the force is worth a nice chunck of change ... but to have a figure put on one ... and on top of that ... a Luke Skywalker.

Now if it would have been an original Luke on that original luke power of the force card ... lets just say the price would have been much higher

hope that makes sense LOL LOL ... pretty much basic figure on prototype package but also a very popular figures
