I love getting autographs from celebs I like, but mostly do it via the mail ... they have a good list of who really signs and who doesn't ... and I know I never would bother someone in person ... unless at a show and they are there for that reason.
the only "in person" auto I've got is from Jennifer Love Hewitt and she was doing a radio promo where she signed autos ... to be honest, I didn't really ask her for one, I was there to pick up my prize money and she was siging for the office staff and went ahead and signed one for me also ... I guess she thought I was part of the office staff or was there for her auto ... I just smiled and said thank you very much.
I do think it's messed up how they have resellers, and then at the same time to have a person like how much they can sell their autograph for.
It really makes a person like the people like the late Clayton Moore who would sign anything and in doing so ... like megosteve said ... it flooded the market making only true fans want his auto. Same thing with Lynda Carter (her hubby is rich enough she doesn't care about the after market value of her auto) so she'll sign pretty much anything.
I love when you see celebs out and about and someone comes upto them with a stack of the same pictures... gee what can those be for?. i guess it's beeter then dealers who forge signatures themselves
Looking for Infinite Heroes Robin and Catwoman
And Super Powers Batman
Everyone is out to make a buck, and he's just as guilty. I know he's pointing out the chasers who come with a stack of pics and other stuff........but he has his hand in the cookie jar also. He sees those guys as people getting a cut of his money selling his stuff for maybe a higher price. Those days that he spoke of are Looooooooooong gone.
I personally like my autographs personalized whenever I can get them and the Celebrity has to be present it makes it worth much more to me. Can never see myself just buying a signature.
It's sad to say but my sports idol Dan Marino is known to be a jerk about signing even if it's for kids
But I understand if they don't want to sign stuff for chasers
When i went to Chicago this past X-Mas we went to see Marty Booker(My wife's brother in law) right before the Bears game and we were at the Hotel where the players stay and when he came out there were a bunch of people asking for his autograph including one guy with 15!!! pics and he signed them all, I told the guy...dude 15 pics? and Marty said it was cool and said he could never tell someone no...if it could make him a few bucks then good for him
D, Marty seems like a really cool Dude. Has anyone picked him up? He's got some pretty good stats over his career and I think a team would want a Dude that can still play and put up some numbers for the influence he could provide in the locker room. I think Marty could prove to be very important for the right team. I just can't see him being finished.

he got offers from NE and KC but he's still thinking about it, i think he's leaning towards retirement he says his back and knees have had enough

Well, the man would know, but his level head would be a great benefit to someone. I see him with a clipboard and headset someday, but he still has enough ability to be a big help to someone like Kansas City as a locker room leader. More than a few teams need a solid Dude like Marty these days.
I know his glory days may be in the past, but I know you know Football enough to know where I am coming from. A Dude like Marty could be enough to help someone get back on track. For example: I hate the Cowboys, but how much would he have helped them get their heads out of their collective asses last year.

I agree T, last year was his worse year ever. He had a nagging Injury plus the experiment of Devin Hester as a wideout which i still think is a mistake and a QB that didn't want to throw him the ball. Cutler could've used him in Chicago or there are other teams as well. KC is just in rebuilding mode so he said it would be a waste of time, and NE was and is tempting to him,but I don't think he wants to pick up and move all over again. He'll only get paid the vet's minimum and he really doesn't need the money, he's loaded for life. He was smart with his money, he invested and didn't throw it away like most athletes do
he truly is a great and generous guy, one of the few nice guys I've met from the NFL

I agree with you on Mike Schmidt. I have a hard time believing the large number of actor kids who ask him for his autographs. Just an excuse to not sign for free. This generation of kids is different than us when we were kids. I've seen kids keep action figures in the package at 10 years old in case they are worth money. Most want autographs because they may be worth money as opposed to actually wanting it because they are big fans.
I've been to conventions and have seen stars ****ed if you buy an auto from them and not get it personalized as if that means you are automatically a dealer. Has anyone seen what most autographs sell for on ebay? Most sell way below what the stars charge at conventions. Most are afraid of fakes and would rather get it in person or not at all.

It's sad I've actually seen kids at card shops talk like they are going to be millionaire's. I don't think that they truly understand what supply and demand is all about.... The more a celebrity signs things the more the value decreases.
Especially sport stars who sign everything in front of them.
