Having said that...

We are sad to report that former world champion Vernon Forrest was tragically and senselessly murdered at about 11PM on Saturday night in Atlanta during an attempted robbery at a gas station. Reportedly Forrest had stopped to put air in the tire of his late model Jaguar when he was robbed at gunpoint. Forrest, 38, was also armed and pursued but another assailant was hiding and ambushed the champion. According to Atlanta police, Forrest was shot multiple times with a semi-automatic weapon.


I'm sorry...what a bone-headed move from Forrest.

Just give the carjackers the damn car...that would've been the end of it.

No car is worth your life.

I agree with you but he was in the heat of the moment. It would **** me off if someone tried to take my car. I would just let him take my car but if I had my gun on me I might want to go after those butt nuggets also. Vernon was a good,solid fighter and his death was needless.

Problem these days is they will take your car and still kill you. My buddy was robbed in Central park years back, middle of the day! Took his wallet, then shot him in the gut! He was messed up for a while, but is fine now. My bosses son was shot 4 times here in Vegas over a pair of sneakers or a jacket, maybe both, he gave them what they asked, they shot him in the legs 5 times, luckily all shots went in & out! The thugs who shot him only did 3-4 years!!! Crazy!! We are too weak on crime America!! Take these thugs out !! Dont waste my moola on a trial for savage beasts!!!

One of the articles I read said that his girlfriend's son was in the car at the time as well, so that may explain why he fought back. This article from Kieran Mulvaney at ESPN pretty much sums up my thoughts. A lot of boxers can't even overcome their battles with the refrigerator, let alone all of the injuries Vernon came back from. I hated that Mayorga had his number, but he was a helluva guy regardless.
