    Personal Favor Etiquette

I have a poster of the 1958 LSU NC football team, in which I have gotten alot of former players to sign. A friend of my wife's has the poster because her dad played on the team and she was going to get him to sign it, plus some other players her dad is still close with. It has been three months. How long do I give her until I need to ask for it back (or is it rude for me to do so)?

Does dad live in the same city? These friends too? 2 weeks would be an acceptable time period. 3 months is ample time. If she hasn't gotten him to sign it yet, I would say she's forgotten. Would it take you three months to get your father to sign something for your friend?

Her dad lives about 60 miles away, one friend live across the street from her, and other friends live out near dad.

I don't think it should take too long. I am always willing to give a few weeks (3-4 ) then I give up , and ask fot it back. I do understand , but I have bee ripped off in the past as well.

Why not ask her if she can arrange a meeting where you go to meet her dad. Google his career highlights if you don't know them in order to make some polite fan discussion.

I remember when I met Glenn Hall at a local sports shop. He was flattered that I knew who he was. (An All-Star Goalie from the NHL) I grabbed a Chicago jersey off the rack and got him to sign it and he was more than happy to do it.

If you feel awkward about asking for it back, now is the time for one of those "little white lies". Simply tell her you are redoing a room to showcase your collection and wanted to get it back for the room and perhaps her dad could sign it some other time, if he hasn't already. That way it appears that you are being sincere without being pushy. Otherwise the longer you wait, the bigger the chance it becomes somebody else's permanent possession.
