Seriously.
I remember my parents telling me about it. They were up all night to watch TV and listen to the radio. My mom still has all the original newspapers.
It must have been an amazing moment in history to witness..

One of the United States greatest achievements, and yet we only bring it up on special occasions. Why we don't have a national holiday to celebrate events like this I dunno. Kids need to be taught more about things like this and develop a sense of national pride, instead of constantly being shown all the stuff that goes wrong.
I watched the landing on TV when I was a kid. We used to have a tv brought into the classroom to show rocket launches from Cape Kennedy/Canaveral. Space exploration used to be something to dream about, now it's sadly viewed as wasting money.Comment

It's actually, "One small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind."
Armstrong has always asserted that "a man" was what he intended to say, and insists that he did say it. Audio experts, however, have had a hard time finding the "a" in that crackly transmission.
Obviously "a man" makes sense (since man and mankind are the same), but even without it people still understood his intent.Comment

I can hardly believe that this came and went as barely a whisper of acknowledgment in the news, etc. Like Hector said, I get hyped up seeing that stuff. I think the kids today don't see the import in it because it doesn't example an immediate result, benefit, change or product, etc.It's all good!Comment

Or anything new, and daring! A lot of folks hack on the moon landing 'cos it didn't have any obvious benefits; but it did represent humanity pushing the envelope.... and saddest of all; it COULD have been the first step to something greater if only we'd pushed the point.

Fox News (I'm more of a CNN type guy, but I do switch to Fox News once in a while) featured an entire hour to the 40th anniversary...it was awesome.

I was born after the exciting moon shots I remember the apolos suoyus link up in 75 and skylab plummeting to earth. It's sad that space flights today only make the news when they have a catastrophe
