He lived a good, long life and was revered by so many. For me, this man was not only the voice of America, he was the heart and soul of America. If Walter Cronkite said that's the way it was, then that was the way it was.

    A great man.

Sad to hear but not unexpected due to his age... (92). (We should all be so lucky...)

He will be missed.... definitely a standard few have met since...

Anyone remember Cronkite on Saturday Morning TV doing "You Are There"?
I thought that show was pretty cool. Here's a brief clip of the Alamo ..look for a brief shot of Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster) playing Davy Crockett:

            YouTube - You are There

I guess Walter Cronkite will be remembered best for reporting the Death of JFK and the Apollo Moon Landing. I remember watching him do that Apollo report- still amazing to me. I could not imagine such an event being broadcast with the likes of Katie Couric. How network news has plummeted in quality and respectability.

            RIP, Mr. Cronkite.

Oh yes, I wonder if anyone else could have made something like that seem "serious".

He could even lend his voice alone and have it sound awesome... you do recall he was the narrator inside the Epcot sphere attraction... I remember seeing/hearing that for the first time in the 70's .... really made an impression..

As far as the other "serious" events mentioned previously, I'd add his Vietnam reporting .... 'nuff said.

Agreed. Not like now. You could never tell which way he voted. Just reported in the best manner ever.

OK now this is starting to get depressing.... To keep losing so many famous people.

RIP Walter The voice of America.......
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
                          Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

So what's suppose to be the 'M' connection with him? Didn't really want to bring that up but I'm sure someone would sooner or later.
