      I read a bit of trivia .....

Burt's father was a cheif of police and one of his patrolmen was named Buford T. Justice.

That's where they got the name -- at Burt's request.

      Also,

Burt personally asked Jackie to play Justice ... Burt was quoted saying he could not think of anyone else in the world for that part except Gleason.

Maybe not a film on the level of Citizen Kane, but one you will stop for and watch if you're flipping dials, if even for just a few minutes. However, I HATE when they run it on stations like CMT where they bleep or alter all the classic lines (poorly I might add), and just ruin the scene. I wish the local drive-in would run a night of '70s films like this one. Maybe I'll e-mail them and suggest that. It's how this film is truly to be enjoyed.

And there are SO MANY classic lines from this film!

"Sheriff... do the letters F.O mean anything to you? "

"And don't go home, and don't go to eat, and don't play with yourself. It wouldn't look nice on my highway. Now, you can THINK about it... but don't do it! "

Like was said, it's a shame the poor sequels have watered down the original film's reputation.

I'm not sure if this is true or just a rumour but I heard all of Jackie Gleason's swear word paste-overs "scum bum" were voice by the guy who spoke for Boris Badenov and Fred Flinstone#2

Gleason was unavailable to do the voicers himself

Drat.. I had almost forgotten about that atrocitious drawing of Cap... now YOU reminded me...

Definitely NOT a Liefield fan ... (or couldn't you tell?)
I've heard that before, and it sure sounds like him. Ironic, since Fred Flinstone was of course based on Gleaon's Ralph Kramden.
