In my Home State of Maine...People have a bad habbit o dropping the "R's" in words. Like Car...sounds more Caa. I have to make an extra effort not to do this.

Plus...I work in a blue Collar environment(on a Shipping Dock) where the only adjective most People know is F*#K! Fortunately...I read a lot, and it has help my vocabulary...so I don't come off sounding like the rest of the Neandertals.

I know that on our "Cybug" website most of the people posting tend to be of the non septic variety. Lossa Uk'ers, Canadians and Asian collectors.
We all tend to spake the same net terms and look for the same toys. Lossa slang flies by daily, but as we are all looking for the same thing everything all falls into place.
I used to deal with enough people in the pre internet days that accents were accents..
Today it doesn't technically matter precisely where you are from. If we want it we all slosh the dosh the same way.
While Our Cybo-site may have regulars who take the p*ss or are gobsmacked more often than the mego sites, everyone has a way of speaking online, vs their traditional phone voices. Whether you are speaking Hackney Patois or Mockney, people will all slightly blend to the Audience they are dealing with. Used to be Cool or Brilliant. Now everything is "SICK" or TIGHT. But i'm a bit ova geezer myself. My slang is prolly na up to date.
Who knows wha could happen tho when speech recognition software comes into play.
Could be fun, no?

It is the Most Universal Word ever.
I predict more allowance for the Word in the Future,.. in any Blue Collar environment,.. it is everyone's go to,.. as well as used as an Adjective before the said item or action.

I hear this one a lot; but I don't agree. I think the biggest thing ruining language is people. Thanks to the internets we have unparallelled opportunities to speak our mind, and you find out IN A HURRY that very few people really have anything to say. THAT'S why texting sounds so dumbed down.... not 'cos of something inherent to the process, but because you have so many people using it so much, and they've got nothing to fill the "air time" with.

Saw "Dog Soldiers" (a personal fave) and yeah; some of it was tricky to follow 'cos of the accents. I get the same from "Torchwood" at times. (Guen's accent is really weird sounding to me.)

One time when my wife and I were visiting Bath, I had an entire conversation at a pub with a fellow from Northern Scotland. One hour and I had no idea what he said to me, I just kept nodding and adding in a subdued "yes" or a "nooo" once in a while. lol

Americans tend to blend everything together. Homogenize. Get teeth capped. Everyone assimilated into the greater melting pot.
Cultures are lost within a generation or two.
At least in Europe cultural identities have a bit more staying power.

Ahh Bath. I never heard of it until I started working for a UK based company...and then I was there all the time. Cool place. What Pub were you in? There is an "upstairs" pub there that is always full of Scottish folk speaking some insane language! It had some kind of bird name like the Pigeon and crow or something like that? Made the mistake of trying to eat there once (when blood pie is the best thing on the menu I suggest you run!!)

I find it hilarious when I pop in my DVD of mad max.It always asks/gives you the option of original Australian language or American???
Really do we need and American version of this?
the Australian language is easily understood on this flick...
