    Cable TV wire questions

    Hi Guys,
Before I go out and buy some, i'd like to get a little advice first ....

    First question ....
What is the name of the cable TV wire that comes from out of the wall and screws into the back of the TV set ?

    Second question ....
    I need length bigtime ......
How long do these wires come in ... and will the signal degrade the longer the wire is ? ....
I'm hoping to go 50 foot ... is this possible ?
This is just for TV .. not internet

    Thanks

Last time I bought one, I asked for co-axial cable (not sure if the US uses the same...but I cant imagine why they would be different?)

I bought one over 50 ft (I believe it was 60 feet) and spliced it into my original cable so I could hook up a tv in my basement office. I've had no issues with picture quality. A few years back I switched to hi-speed internet, and the guy just spliced off of my splice when he put it in, so I'm running 2 tv's and my internet off the same line with no problems.

One more question, if I need to go over my length, do they make couplers to put 2 wires together ?

Yep, Cap is right. It's coaxial cable, it's possible to get in very large lengths, a cable TV signal shouldn't see any noticible degradation, and couplers are definitely available for them.

You can get the wire to burry as well. So the neighbour cant see the wire coming from there house.

There are 2 types of coax both RG-6 and RG-59 cables are widely used in residential settings, especially when it comes to TV. But while RG-59 is the norm for standard Cable (CATV), RG-6 is the coax that has what it takes to transmit digital video signals and satellite TV. When you compare the two types side by side, RG-6 has a larger core conductor, thicker dielectric insulation, and anywhere from 2 to 4 layers of shielding, versus RG-59’s one. These physical differences are what make RG-59 best suited to low-frequency transmissions and short cable runs, and RG-6 the ideal choice to carry high frequency signals over long distances.

Another thing you do to boost signal over long distances...is put a Signal Booster on it. The Cable Company put one on mine(it runs from one side of the House in the Basement...all the way to the Room over the Garage)....and it works!

I just need to run a TV cable wire from one bedroom to another ... I need the extra footage to lay the wire neatly against all the walls ... So I probably need 50-60 feet of wire to only go about 20 real feet.

I can forward you some e-mails I keep getting....

                      >How long do these wires come in ...

You can get them in almost any length. I think prepack bundles come up to 50 feet; and if you have an electronics store near you they'll sometimes sell it off the spool; like buying chain at a hardware store.

                      >and will the signal degrade the longer the wire is ? ....

Yes; but 50 feet shouldn't be a problem. If so, you can get an amp for about $25 bucks. It has an in/out like the tv, and plugs in.
