    >I can't understand how you all care SO MUCH that this movie is being made.

Well.... I can't understand why you care so much that we care so much that this movie is being made.

    Nyah!

Seriously though; it just seems like everybody's hung up on the same old same old. And not just with entertainment; with EVERYTHING! Nobody has any new ideas, nobody's even trying! The poopy movies are a symptom. Business, politics, philosophy, theology.... it's all the same tired old ideas going around yet again.

....and sometimes I think maybe a cause. (Although it's probably reciprocal.) People get no encouragement to see things differently; and if you spend a lot of time watching movies and tv (like most of us) and those present you with nothing new or unexpected, you slowly lose the ability to see things from another angle. I've mentioned that in a bunch of other threads; the weird LITTLE things that make a movie, or tv show, or comic completely unpalatable to people.

And from a strictly personal angle; it's yet another reminder of how me and society don't see eye to eye. Which I wouldn't mind, except that it gets harder and harder to get AWAY from society....

      I said:
      >I can't understand how you all care SO MUCH that this movie is being made.
      And you replied:
Well.... I can't understand why you care so much that we care so much
that this movie is being made.
Well...humor aside...I "care" about "your caring"
because it's the SAME deal EVERY time with these "remake" movies
and I get tired of reading the same ol' same ol'..

      PLUS...to boot...
      I don't "get it" anyway.

You'd think Mego Museum member's money was being invested in the films
the way they react to it.

Among other things...my thoughts are what the heck is WRONG with
      retreading ideas?

The people here are on a nostalgic-themed board to begin with...
you'd think THAT'd override their inclination to be so bothered by it.

Don---you sound like you're looking for something "more"
in new movies ----something "special" and, frankly, I'm not even sure of what "that" is---

nor do I feel I'd like it if I did---

...it seems many on this board that criticize this kind of remake stuff
think it's a sin to be happy with what's going on in the movie world--
      I disagree.

      What are we desiring otherwise?
      Another PULP FICTION?
      Another GONE WITH THE WIND?
Those "groundbreakers" don't grow on tress...and they're not the only
type of movie that's important anyway.
And, even if THAT'S the case (which it isn't)
...and they ARE the only type of movie
      that's important, ...well...cancelling a TJ HOOKER remake
      isn't gonna help matters.
(And COMPLAINING about it being made CERTAINLY doesn'thelp)

      Sure there's a lot of movie crud---but THAT'S stuff that doesn't
even have to be particularly "remakes" as we've been discussing
      in this thread.

There's also a lot of great watchable movies.

They're not the cure for cancer...no...but they're great movies.
"No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I think I'll scoot over here right by this winda', let this beautiful carriage rock me to sleep, and dream about how lucky I am." - Chris Mannix

        >it's the SAME deal EVERY time with these "remake" movies and I get tired of reading the same ol' same ol'..

But.... there is a simple solution for that....

        >my thoughts are what the heck is WRONG with retreading ideas?

I'd hafta say; inherently nothing. Pretty much everything's been done, so you're gonna be recycling SOMETHING at some point, but it bothers me that so much is recycled. Not the names, but that these films all end up being the same generic film with a recognizable name slapped on. It's like how every chick flick hs her falling for Mr Wrong at first while spurning Mr Right, or every action film has a car chase, or every movie has a love story thrown in....

        >Those "groundbreakers" don't grow on tress

True; but I'm kinda going the other way with things. I tend to prefer the grade z, no budget films to the big blockbusters 'cos THAT'S where you're gonna see something different. Not neccessarily GOOD; but different. And I much prefer that to good. Same reason I watch so many foreign films, and old movies.... it's a completely different experience. (Any rut that isn't your own is new....)
