RANT - or Why California is run by Idiots

I may not be the brightest bulb in the toolshed but does this make sense to anyone?

I went to my pharmacy to have my prescription filled. Upon picking up my prescription I had to sign a clipboard log because my prescription is a controlled substance. Excuse me, but isn't that the reason why we have prescriptions in the first place because they are controlled substances? I'm just waiting for the day where I have to use a retinal scan to confirm that the fingerprint on my Photo ID is correct. This could only happen in California.

In MA. you have to sign for all your prescriptions but that is to confirm you got it and were given the instructions for it. Is that why they had you sign, to say they answered your questions and gave you instructions, if you needed it?

In Tennessee you have to sign for your prescription at CVS pharmicies.
But at Walgreen you don't. I think its more of a company policy than anything else.

I only had to sign for one prescription, I was picking up three, so I don't think it's an issue of signing to confirm you received it. I asked the pharmacy clerk why I had to sign and he said it was a State Law for controlled substances.

The pharmacy was in fact Walgreens so that rules out the company policy theory if one doesn't have to sign at Walgreens in Tennessee (or maybe you do for that particular drug).

I also love reading the side effects, they are usually good for a laugh or two. Mine said to consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following - the last item on the list was Coma. I should probably get one of those button thingys for First Alert, so I can press it as I'm sliding into unconsciousness.

That's like those ads where they say "if you or a loved one has suffered a heart attack or death, stop using the product and consult a doctor". For one, if I have a heart attack, I doubt that the first thing I'll do when I recover in the hospital is ask for the medicine that caused it. And two, if I'm dead, I doubt I'll take anymore either. Side effects are often worse than the problem you're taking the medicine to fix.

The signing for controlled substances does seem lame considering you can't get it without a prescription. I'm sure I know it's controlled if I can't just buy it off the shelf. But then again, not everybody knows this, so that's why the signing thing exists I guess. Or maybe they want people to sign so that if they give the medicine to anyone else, they can't say they didn't know it was illegal to do so. I don't know.

"I prefer to remain an enigma."

In Arizona you have to show identification AND sign a log at pharmacies...

            To buy Pseudophedrine/Sudafed...

Which is an over the counter medication (at least in most places)

It serves a good purpose, since drug dealers use it to make Meth, but its a pain in the butt when you have allergies

All the OTC cold/allergy meds are now behind the pharmacy counter, and you have to get a card from the shelf and trade it in at the pharmacy for the actual medicine. Its a huge pain when the pharmacy is closed and your allergies are killing you.

In FL you just tell them what you want and they give it to you.
